GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tasha Katrina Benjamin, 44, was arrested yesterday and charged with property damage over $200 after allegedly backing her vehicle into her husband’s vehicle during an argument.
At about 3:59 p.m. on January 4, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Arbor Park Apartments (309 SW 16th Avenue), where the victim said he and Benjamin had argued at that location and Benjamin intentionally backed her vehicle into his vehicle before leaving. Officers were unable to locate Benjamin at that time.
At about 9:31 p.m., the victim called law enforcement again to say he had located Benjamin and was following her vehicle; an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of SW Archer Road.
The officer noted that the rear of Benjamin’s car appeared to have fresh damage and the victim’s vehicle had obvious damage to its front end. The damage to the victim’s vehicle was estimated at $500.
Post Miranda, Benjamin reportedly said the damage on her car had been there for a few months. The arresting officer reported that traffic cameras showed that the vehicle had no damage before January 4.
Benjamin has six felony convictions (none violent) and 13 misdemeanor convictions (none violent). She was arrested for domestic battery in 2022, but the charges were later dropped; the arresting officer in that case noted that the couple had a history of domestic violence. Judge Sean Brewer set bail at $25,000.
