A South Carolina woman was giving birth in her apartment when she allegedly stabbed the newborn boy to death with a metal letter opener in what cops described as a “gruesome” scene.
Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner told reporters at a press conference that his officers responded around 8:20 p.m. Friday to an apartment in the 100 block of Nations Way for a medical call.

“They get on scene and realize very quickly this is something much more,” Liner said, according to local Fox affiliate WHNS.
Cops learned that An Ngo, who is in her early 30s, had recently given birth to a baby boy. A warrant obtained by Law&Crime says officers found the boy in a trash bag along with the umbilical cord.
“It was very apparent that Ms. Ngo is the one who tragically murdered this child,” Liner said.
The warrant alleges Ngo stabbed the boy with the letter opener as she was giving birth to him, and continued to stab him after he was born.
“We’ll make sure that this baby will receive justice,” Liner said. “It didn’t have a chance at life. Not long. So it’s our job to make sure that this baby does receive that.”
Ngo admitted to stabbing the child and “showed extreme indifference to human life,” the warrant said. The warrant did not include a motive for her allegedly stabbing the baby. Police arrested Ngo on a charge of homicide by child abuse. She faces 20 years to life in prison if convicted.
“I’ve been doing this for two and a half decades and I’ve never seen anything this gruesome and I’ve never seen anything this bad,” Liner said, according to WHNS.
Ngo appeared before a judge Tuesday after receiving treatment at a hospital, WHNS reported. She is now in jail without bond and has a court date set for May 15.
