GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lindsey Louise Kirkman, 27, was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with grand theft of a vehicle after allegedly stealing a medical transport van at Shands.
Kirkman was reportedly leaving UF Health Shands Hospital at about 4:30 a.m. yesterday when she saw a medical transport van that had been left unlocked, with the rear doors open, while the medical transport staff went to get a patient.
Kirkman allegedly closed the back doors of the vehicle, got in, and drove away. Security staff at the hospital saw her entering the vehicle and unsuccessfully tried to stop her.

A GPS tracker in the vehicle enabled Alahuca County Sheriff’s Deputies to locate and stop the vehicle near the northbound 402 mile marker on I-75. Gainesville Police Department then arrested Kirkman for the theft.
Kirkman, whose listed address is in Gainesville, has one felony conviction (violent) and nine misdemeanor convictions (one violent); she is on probation in Leon County for battery on a law enforcement officer. She also has an active warrant in another county. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $2,000.
