Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lizandra Isabel Borrell, 31, was arrested yesterday morning after allegedly texting the victim 45 times in the middle of the night, forcing her way into the victim’s home, stealing a smart watch and keys, and throwing a can of beer at the victim.

The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that Borrell had sent 45 text messages to the victim at about 2 a.m. on August 26; Borrell and the victim had reportedly been in an on-and-off long-distance relationship for several years, and the victim asked Borrell to leave her alone.

At about 8:55 a.m. on August 26, Borrell allegedly arrived at the victim’s home without being invited, moved some of the victim’s cameras so they wouldn’t show her vehicle in the driveway, and then disconnected the internet, effectively disabling other cameras. Borrell then used a pair of pliers to force a sliding door open, causing damage to the door.

Borrell reportedly argued with the victim and then allegedly took the victim’s smart watch to look at text messages in an effort to find out if the victim was cheating on her. Borrell allegedly threw a can of beer at the victim while they were fighting over the watch.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced the victim’s house and car keys in Borrell’s crotch; the victim had not realized they were missing.

Post Miranda, Borrell reportedly said she had been invited to come to the victim’s house on August 28, but she admitted that she had arrived two days early and had forced open the sliding door. She reportedly admitted to taking the watch, moving the cameras, throwing the beer, and taking the victim’s keys. Borrell reportedly said she used to have a house key but no longer had one, and she admitted texting and calling the victim from a different number in the middle of the night.

The officer reported that surveillance video from the victim’s cameras showed Borrell disabling the system and trying to force open the back door.

Borrell has been charged with stalking, burglary with battery, and petit theft. She has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
