In a shocking incident in Louisiana, a man has been accused of keeping a woman captive for several days before brutally biting off part of her face as she attempted to flee.
Authorities arrested 31-year-old Brandon Patrick on January 30, following what has been described by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office as a “gruesome domestic violence” event. The victim reportedly suffered “extensive injuries” during the ordeal.
According to the allegations, Patrick forcibly detained the woman for several days after a domestic argument escalated. On January 27, as she tried to escape, Patrick allegedly bit off a portion of her face in a violent attempt to prevent her from leaving.
Despite her severe injuries, the victim managed to escape to safety, as confirmed by Ashley Rodrigue, the Public Information Officer for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, in a statement to Oxygen.
Rodrigue explained, “She was able to run out of the door of their shared residence, where he had been holding her against her will. The attack occurred during her escape.”
The victim was taken to the hospital, where the sheriff’s office noted she was treated for her “extensive injuries.”
“The victim has been released from the hospital,” Rodrigue shared, “and continues recovery in a safe location.”
After the incident, the sheriff’s office issued an initial statement saying that Patrick was wanted on one count of domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury and false imprisonment. They described him as a “dangerous” convicted felon with known local-gang affiliation.
Authorities added that although Patrick was an identical twin—which could have made his identification difficult—the 31-year-old had distinctive marks and tattoos, including a stab wound to his right hand and a half sleeve tattoo on his left arm featuring a house and scroll.
Patrick was arrested Jan. 30 after he turned himself in to authorities.
As Rodrigue explained, “Patrick turned himself in to us at our Hammond substation without incident following news reports that included the sheriff recommending he do so before the victim’s family got to him before we could.”
Patrick has yet to be formally charged by the district attorney’s office. Oxygen spoke with prosecutor Alexis Taylor, who said she is currently reviewing the file and the will make a formal charging decision in the near future.
Oxygen reached out to the public defender’s office to get a comment on the allegations against Patrick, but did not receive an immediate response.
