GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Yolonda Rontres Robinson, 50, was arrested last night and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking her daughter’s boyfriend with a machete.
The victim told a responding Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that he was invited to the apartment at MAA Steeplegate (1105 Fort Clarke Blvd) by Robinson’s daughter, but he knew Robinson did not approve of the relationship and had threatened to cut him with a machete if he came to the apartment.
The victim reportedly said he didn’t care if Robinson had a machete and that he thought she was just bluffing, but when he entered the apartment, Robinson allegedly approached him with the machete and said, “Oh, you don’t care?”
The responding deputy reported that the victim’s girlfriend is a resident of the apartment and can give permission for a visitor to be in the home.
The victim reportedly raised a piece of luggage in front of him, and Robinson allegedly attacked the luggage with the machete, leaving two three-inch cuts in the luggage and scratches where the blade hit the luggage but didn’t cut it.
The victim reportedly left the apartment and contacted law enforcement. Robinson was reportedly stopped nearby by a deputy and arrested.
Robinson has three misdemeanor convictions (one violent). Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her released on her own recognizance.
