Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lacher Brockenbrough Lindsey, 32, was arrested early this morning after allegedly taking an elderly man with dementia from a rehab center without authorization.

At about 4:30 p.m. on June 23, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Park Meadows Health and Rehabilitation after a staff member reported that one of their patients, a man with dementia, was missing. The staff member said Lindsey came to the rehab center, said she was the man’s daughter, and asked if he was allowed to leave the rehab center.

She was told that she needed to inform a different staff member before taking the man off the property; however, she reportedly told that staff member that she was taking the man to the dining room. Instead of taking him to the dining room, she allegedly put the man in a wheelchair and wheeled him out the front exit. A staff member near the exit asked her if she’d informed the other staff member; she said she had and then took the man to her vehicle.

When the staff member at the exit spoke with the other staff member, they found that Lindsey did not have permission to take the man off the property and called the man’s sister, who has a Power of Attorney. The victim’s sister reportedly said Lindsey is not related to the man and should not have taken the man from the rehab center.

The responding officer reported that surveillance video showed Lindsey taking the victim out of the rehab center.

Lindsey was arrested at 1:37 a.m., and post Miranda, she did not want to speak about the incident.

Lindsey has been charged with interfering with the custody of an incompetent person and kidnapping. She has six felony convictions (non-violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and has a Notice to Appear for a hit-and-run charge from February 2025. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $75,000 for interfering with the custody of an incompetent person but found no probable cause for the kidnapping charge; she ordered a curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and a GPS monitor.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
