GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anna Maria Freeney, 28, was arrested yesterday after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend.

At about 3:25 p.m. on June 2, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to an apartment in Holly Heights and found Freeney walking a few blocks from the apartment. When asked about the stabbing, she reportedly said she had awakened to being choked by the victim, and when he stopped, she went to the kitchen, where she picked up a kitchen knife and “got up on his a**.”

Post Miranda, Freeney reportedly said she and the victim had been in an intimate relationship for the past six months, but “nobody touches her,” so she picked up a knife in the kitchen. She said the victim went into his room, and she went to his bedroom and cracked the door open; at that point, she said, she “didn’t know what she was doing” and started swinging the knife wildly, not knowing what she hit. The deputy noted that she had dried blood on her right hand.

Another deputy reported that the victim said he had come home and asked Freeney to leave the apartment, and she slapped him across the face. He said he put his hands around her neck and strangled her, then let go and went to his room but heard her getting a knife from the kitchen. He said he tried to shut and lock the door, but Freeney stuck the knife through the opening before he could close the door. The victim said Freeney was swinging the knife around, cutting his wrist and collarbone. He said he retreated to the bathroom and collapsed in the bathtub, and then Freeney tried unsuccessfully to take his wallet before putting the knife on the bathroom counter and leaving the apartment.

The deputy reported that a bloody knife was found on the bathroom counter.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced small baggies of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

Freeney has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. She has eight felony convictions (two violent) and six misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); she has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2020, and she is on probation for possession of a controlled substance. She is also facing a sworn complaint for stealing a mobility scooter from an acquaintance. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $100,000.
