Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nefertiti Aysha Hines, 19, was arrested yesterday for allegedly stabbing her cousin multiple times with a screwdriver.

At about 2 p.m. on January 17, Hines and the victim reportedly got into an argument after the victim asked why she had slashed his car tires. The victim told the responding Gainesville Police Department officer that Hines started yelling at him and then moved toward him aggressively, punching and scratching him.

The victim said Hines picked up a flathead screwdriver and started stabbing him; he tried to run away but slipped and fell. He said Hines stood over him, continuing to stab at him.

The officer reported that the victim had several puncture wounds on his hands, a laceration behind his ear, and a laceration on his face.

Post Miranda, Hines reportedly said the victim had slapped her before she started fighting him; she admitted picking up a screwdriver but said the victim was holding her against her will and she was just trying to get away.

A witness reportedly said Hines attacked the victim with a screwdriver, then pushed him to the ground, punching and stabbing him.

Hines has been charged with aggravated battery. She has no local adult criminal convictions but was arrested for battery on a different victim on October 24; that case can no longer be found on the court’s website. Judge Tatum Davis set bail at $100,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
