Woman Who ‘Hates Kids’ Allegedly Posed as Substitute Teacher, Police Say

Inset: Amy Jones (Milwaukee County Jail). Background: Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Jones allegedly posed as a substitute teacher (WITI).

A 23-year-old Wisconsin woman is accused of entering a Milwaukee high school while posing as a substitute teacher and making vulgar remarks, insulting students and using racial slurs, authorities said.

Amy L. Jones faces one count of impersonating a public employee and five counts of exposing children to harmful descriptions.

The alleged incident took place Sept. 24 at Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, Jones managed to teach at least two classes before school officials discovered she was not an authorized substitute. The principal contacted the staffing agency used by the school, and representatives confirmed Jones was not employed by them, police said.

Investigators say Jones arrived that morning, informed office personnel that she had been assigned as a substitute and was sent to a classroom on the fifth floor.

Students later reported that she allegedly used profanity and racial slurs, made sexually derogatory comments and separated students by race and gender. Police also said Jones talked about having felony convictions and being willing to go to jail.

Her behavior reportedly left the class feeling uncomfortable, according to the affidavit.

A student recorded part of the encounter. In the video, Jones allegedly swore, called one student “fat,” described sexual acts to male students and told another student to “shut the f— up.”

Investigators wrote that the student also described Jones making racist comments toward white students, including referring to them as “white as s—” and “white motherf—ers.”

Students told police that another teacher remained in the room with Jones for roughly 20 minutes during the first class. According to the affidavit, Jones’ conduct changed after that teacher left.

Jones allegedly asked the class whether anyone had marijuana, saying the lesson was “so f—ing lame and annoying.”

Students reported the alleged conduct to school employees, who then began investigating Jones’ identity and determined that she was not a legitimate substitute teacher.

Police escorted Jones from the building after staff uncovered the alleged deception. School employees told investigators that Jones had previously attended Rufus King as a student.

The principal told police Jones was “lucky” an additional substitute had been needed that day, leading staff to initially believe she belonged in the school, the affidavit said.

During an interview several days later, Jones allegedly appeared pleased by the attention surrounding the incident. She reportedly said the episode would make her “famous” and seemed excited about the prospect. Officers countered that she was more likely to become “infamous.”

“Amy was very excited about that thought, snapping her fingers and dancing,” the affidavit stated. “She said she can’t wait to get out.”

Jones reportedly told investigators that boredom motivated her decision to enter the school and pose as a substitute.

“Amy stated she went to the school because she was bored,” police wrote. “She stated she hates kids and she just wanted to ‘f— around.’”

Jones was arrested and booked into the Milwaukee County Jail, where she remains in custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 20.

Milwaukee Public Schools released a statement from the principal to parents, obtained by local Fox affiliate WITI, about the incident.

“We will continue to take all appropriate action to ensure that Rufus King International High School remains a safe and welcoming place for our students and staff,” the statement said of the school’s investigation.
