Tragedy struck in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State over the weekend as a 25-year-old man, Michael Ikuedowoni, was stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, during a heated argument allegedly sparked by accusations of cheating.

According to reports, the couple, who lived together in a single room, had a history of frequent disputes rooted in mistrust and suspicions of cheating. The latest altercation, which turned fatal, reportedly began when Augustina confronted Michael over claims that he was having an affair with another woman.

A source close to the couple, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told LEADERSHIP that the argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. In the heat of the moment, Augustina allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed Michael in the leg.

“He was bleeding, but we thought it wasn’t life-threatening. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, treated with injections, given some medications, and discharged the same day. But things took a turn for the worse,” the source said.

The source added that Michael’s condition deteriorated shortly after he returned home. His leg reportedly became swollen, prompting a return to the hospital late Sunday night. Despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ondo State, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

“There was an argument between the two, which led to the suspect stabbing the victim with scissors. He later died in the hospital. The suspect is in our custody, and the case will be charged to court after investigations are concluded,” Ayanlade said.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.
