When Netflix released the trailer for Meghan Markle‘s second season of With Love, Meghan on Aug. 12, the streamer also announced that Prince Harry’s wife would host a Christmas special that will be released on the streaming platform just in time for the holiday.
The statement from Netflix read: “This December, join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration. Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs — with simple how-tos to follow at home. It’s a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy.”
However, that announcement did not sit well with some royal watchers. Many believe that Palace can’t be too happy about it either as the Duchess of Sussex’s Christmas special is being called a “vicious” and “nasty” move directed at the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton).

Fans slam Meghan’s Christmas show as ‘pathetic move’
Several royal fans were taken aback that Meghan’s new “downgraded” Netflix deal included a Christmas special and accused the duchess of trying to copy and take attention away from Kate’s holiday special.
Meghan’s sister-in-law previously collaborated with Mary Berry on the holiday cooking program A Berry Royal Christmas special. The Princess of Wales also hosts her annual carol service, titled Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, which is broadcast in the U.K. just before Christmas Day.
“Yeah, she wants to upstage Catherine’s Christmas concert,” one person sounded off, calling it “sad” and “pathetic.” Another added, “Anything to compete with Catherine. A December holiday special, really?”
“A Christmas special?!” a third fumed. “Good grief, is there NOTHING Meghan won’t attempt to do better than Catherine, Princess of Wales — and fail MISERABLY at? Just when I thought we would take up a Netflix subscription again.”
A fourth wrote: “The girl is so desperate to compete with Catherine, and it’s just getting sad at this point! No doubt, she’ll have to pay all her ‘influencing friends’ since they are in the biz and don’t do nothing without getting paid! “
A fifth chimed in, “Her holiday special, which will include ‘friends & family’ … Apparently, Doria will be the one family member since she cut off & alienated the rest of the family.”
And another wrote: “How’s Meghan going to do a ‘Christmas special’ with no family from her side, none from Harry’s, and no real friends? Christmas is about family–and they’ve done everything possible to alienate theirs.
Expert says what Meghan’s doing doesn’t even compare to what Kate already does
A source told Radar Online: “This is just the type of vicious, nasty move that is coming to define Meghan.”
Royal expert and biographer Hugo Vickers agreed that Meghan is again trying to one-up her sister-in-law but opined that the duchess won’t be able to, no matter how hard she tries.
“It’s always said that whenever Catherine, the Princess of Wales, starts something, Meghan Markle does something else to cap it, or in some ways clash with it,” Vickers explained. “Obviously, the initiative of the Princess of Wales at Westminster Abbey is incredibly moving and incredibly special, and is done for the benefit of the rest of the world, for all the people who’ve been suffering, all the people who’ve helped with charities, all that sort of thing. So it’s all for the public good.”
He added, “I’m not quite convinced that Meghan Markle is going to be dissecting some more petals and scattering them over salads, or whatever she’s going to be doing in California, is in quite the same league.”
