Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban recently shocked fans with news of their separation. They married in 2006 and share two children. While they seemed rock solid, they have reportedly been living separately since the summer. Though some are hoping to see them reconcile, a divorce attorney said this might not be likely. He revealed that they likely already made attempts to fix their relationship.

After nearly 20 years of marriage, Kidman and Urban are headed for divorce. Sources close to the couple told TMZ that the couple has been living apart “since the beginning of summer.” 

Urban has reportedly already moved out of the home. Kidman has been taking care of their two daughters and is “holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone.” The couple was last photographed together in June.

According to initial reports, Urban is the one who initiated the separation. Kidman reportedly wants to repair her marriage. Los Angeles divorce attorney Patrick Baghdaserians tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Kidman’s desire to keep the marriage together may not do anything to impede divorce proceedings.

“Reconciliation takes two to tango and if Keith is not interested in reconciliation, then he may proceed with the litigation, regardless of whether Nicole wants it or not,” he said. “The parties may try a period of separation where they engage in couples therapy to try to repair their situation. However, it’s most likely that they have already tried this and it has failed.”

As the couple navigates their divorce, they could face complications over whether or not Kidman wants to leave Nashville. 

“Nicole is from Australia and prior to her marriage to Keith Urban was living in Los Angeles,” he said. “She also has lived in New York. Now that she’s no longer with Urban, will she continue to live in the Nashville area? Also in regards to property division, I assume the parties have some sort of premarital agreement. A lot of premarital agreements have a choice of law provision that provides for property to be divided pursuant to a certain state law. Many premarital agreements that I have seen between high-net-worth celebrities involve a choice of law provision that calls for dividing the property under California law specifically, unless all the property is already identified and divided pursuant to a premarital agreement.”

He noted that if Urban opposes her relocation, they will face “significant litigation.”

He has already moved out of their home

According to sources close to the couple, they have been growing apart for some time.

“Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall,” a source told People.
