Renowned Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has called on Nigerian authorities to consider public executions as a deterrent against the escalating kidnapping crisis in the country. He argues that only through severe and highly visible penalties can the nation effectively combat the growing threat of abductions.

In a candid video message shared with his Instagram followers, Uchemba voiced his frustration with the government’s apparent reluctance to enforce existing capital punishment laws fully. He contends that the absence of tangible repercussions emboldens kidnappers, allowing them to operate with impunity.

Uchemba drew parallels with China, highlighting how the Asian nation employs the death penalty for serious offenses like kidnapping and corruption. He suggested that such stringent measures have been instrumental in keeping crime rates low there, advocating for Nigeria to adopt a similar approach.

Reflecting on the current situation, the actor lamented, “The law already states that the punishment for kidnapping is death, but most times when these offenders are arrested, we don’t hear anything about their fate afterward.” He emphasized the need for clarity and action to ensure that justice is not only served but seen to be served.

Uchemba called on authorities to take stronger actions, stressing that clear enforcement of justice would not only deter criminals but also help restore citizens’ confidence in the security system.
