A Nigerian woman has ignited a flurry of reactions online after publicly addressing the surge of messages she received from men following her admission of losing ₦7 million in a failed business venture. Her candid revelation had unintended consequences, drawing an influx of unsolicited attention.
In a widely circulated TikTok video, she expressed frustration at the relentless barrage of messages, attributing the influx to the significant sum she had mentioned. Her experience highlights the curiosity and assumptions that can arise from public disclosures about financial matters.
In her video, she voiced her exasperation, saying:
“Ever since I shared that I lost ₦7 million on something unprofitable, I haven’t had a moment’s peace. Men have been flooding my inbox, pestering me from all sides, simply because I mentioned 7 million.”
“The most amusing part,” she continued, “is that none of these men actually have money. They say, ‘I know you’re out of my league, but when I have money, I’ll take care of you. Even now, I can serve you.'”
Expressing her frustration, the lady made it clear that she is not interested in entertaining such advances, especially from men who are not financially stable.
According to her, she cannot be in a relationship where she has to “manage” a man’s financial struggles, stressing that men should focus on improving themselves instead.
“I’m not a girl that can be managing any man’s poverty. I’m not like my mum. I cannot manage your poverty. If you know you are poor, go and work. Don’t come to me. I don’t need anyone to serve me; I don’t want a poor man as a boyfriend,” she added.
Her statement has since triggered mixed reactions online, with some supporting her stance on financial stability in relationships, while others criticised her for being harsh and materialistic.
