Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised striker Akor Adams for his match-winning contribution in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Lesotho on Friday.

The Sevilla forward came off the bench to score the decisive goal ten minutes from time, marking his senior debut for Nigeria with a crucial strike in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Adams, who has now scored in three straight appearances for club and country, once again lived up to his reputation as a super substitute.

Despite Adams’ heroics, Nigeria remain third in Group C, one point behind South Africa heading into Tuesday’s must-win clash against leaders Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles must also rely on Rwanda to take points off South Africa to boost their qualification hopes.

Chelle hails squad unity

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Chelle praised Adams but stressed the importance of the team’s collective spirit.

He revealed that the atmosphere in the dressing room was calm, respectful, and united after the final whistle.

“I’m happy for Akor, but it’s not about one player,” Chelle said. “The unity in the dressing room after the game showed how focused and committed everyone is to our common goal.”

Eyes on Benin clash
Chelle also highlighted his players’ determination, noting that many of them compete in Europe’s top leagues and are motivated to lead Nigeria to the World Cup.

He described the Lesotho win as vital and expressed gratitude for the chance to fight for qualification on home soil in Uyo.
