The ladies of The View kicked off their very first episode back from their summer hiatus with a tense discussion about President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard in major cities to crack down on crime.

After President Trump deployed the National Guard in Washington, D.C., to curb crime, dubbing it “one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the world,” the president recently said he would do the same in Chicago to crack down on crime and illegal immigration.

After Whoopi Goldberg questioned why President Trump seemed intent to also deploy Immigration Customs Enforcement, Ana Navarro said the Trump administration wants to “conflate crime and immigration.”

“They want to round up immigrants. They want to terrorize vulnerable communities,” she said.

She then encouraged viewers to record and “amplify” any “human rights violations” they witness, but warned them against responding violently.

“When you see civil rights violations, when you see masked men dragging people through the streets and beating people’s dashboards and windows, film it. Amplify the truth so America can see what is happening in our streets,” she said.

“Do not get violent. Do not play into the hands of Donald Trump and his minions,” Navarro warned. “They want a confrontation.”

Joy Behar weighed in next, saying Trump’s recent decision to deploy the National Guard and ICE was yet another “big distraction” from the administration.

“Isn’t a lot of this a big distraction from the fact that his approval ratings are in the toilets right now?” she asked. “Also the [Jeffrey] Epstein thing hangs over his head, so a lot of this is a big distraction.”

She then pointed out that this went against the anti-war platform he ran on during the presidential election.

“Didn’t he run on being an anti war candidate?” she asked. “One of the reasons they liked him was because he was against war.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
