Angela Bassett recently reached a major parenting milestone, sending her 19-year-old twins, Bronwyn and Slater, off to college. Instead of the expected emotional farewell, Bassett described the moment as one of pure joy, not tears.

The 66-year-old mother stopped by Today to promote her new six-part Nexflix series, Zero Day, and talk to hosts about her reaction to dropping her twins off at college, revealing that she did not shed any tears.

“You know what, no tears. Just lots of joy,” she shared in the interview. “You think you’re going to cry, and because you think you are going to do that, it doesn’t happen. I remember when I went to college and how wonderful it was, so, of course, I wanted that for them too, so no cries, no guilt.”

Bassett shares her two children with fellow actor, husband Courtney Vance. Bronwyn and Slater were born via surrogacy. In a 2007 interview with Oprah, the couple gave some insight into their incredible parenting journey.

“I had a dream about seven years ago that we were going to have twins. I didn’t know how it was going to happen,” Vance told the media legend. Bassett added, “Just standing there together, holding each other with the realization that this is the moment that we’ve been working toward, praying for … [it’s a dream come true].”

In terms of parenting, Bassett continued saying at the time that she often refers to herself as the “good cop,” while her husband is “usually pretty calm but he is consistent.”

In a 2024 interview with People Magazine, Bassett told the outlet that she often feels guilty about the long hours she spends for work; however, what she prays that her children will see are not the long hours, but a hard-working Black woman, “achieving her dreams, having success.”

Bassett just gave all parents a tool to add to their parenting toolboxes, no tears, just joy, when sending their children off to college!
