Bandai and Toei Animation’s Digimon is a prolific series that may have initially been dismissed by North American audiences as a Pokémon clone. However, Digimon actually predates Pokémon and was originally conceived as a digital pet toy that was designed as a counterpart to Tamagotchi. Digimon has evolved to include video games, trading card games, manga, and anime, the latter of which has become especially popular and taken on a life of its own.

Nine Digimon anime have been released since 1999 — ten if the serialized version of Digimon Adventure tri. is included — but fans have been patiently waiting for a new entry in the franchise, ever since 2021’s Digimon Ghost Game. However, the most recent Digimon Con event proudly announced the latest anime — Digimon Beatbreak — which has a premiere that’s right around the corner.

What is Digimon Beatbreak?

One of the most exciting aspects of any new Digimon series is how they creatively reinvent the franchise’s core premise. There’s still plenty of mileage in the original Digital Monster concept, but the franchise has been able to endure for more than 500 episodes through its courage to explore new ideas. Digimon Universe: App Monsters and Digimon Ghost Game both attempted to reinvent the Digimon brand, to various degrees of success, and it looks as if Digimon Beatbreak will also strive for an original angle that’s simultaneously fresh and familiar.

Digimon Beatbreak‘s premise actually bears some similarities with the polarizing Digimon Universe: App Monsters. Digimon Beatbreak is set in a world that’s embraced AI and incorporated it into everyday life. The world’s most popular AI support device — Sapotama — is powered by an energy source that’s known as “e-Pulse.” e-Pulse is in turn generated through human interactions, such as their emotions and innermost thoughts.

The world experiences quite the seismic shock when the Sapotama devices start generating Digimon, who use e-Pulse to evolve and grow stronger. The advent of Digimon in the world triggers a brave new future where humans and Digimon must coexist. To make matters more interesting, Digimon Beatbreak focuses on a team of intrepid bounty hunters known as Golden Dawn. Digimon could revolutionize bounty hunting and be the breakthrough that Golden Dawn’s members have been waiting for.

Eager Digimon fans won’t have to wait very long to get their first taste of Digimon Beatbreak. Toei Animation’s new series will premiere on Oct. 5, 2025, on Fuji TV, which has been Digimon‘s broadcast home for several years now. Unfortunately, there have yet to be any details regarding where audiences outside of Japan will be able to watch Digimon Beatbreak.

It stands to reason that Digimon Beatbreak will be streaming on Crunchyroll, considering that this is where the majority of Digimon content is available. Additionally, Crunchyroll has provided steady details regarding Digimon Beatbreak, which would indicate some sort of relationship there. Nevertheless, Crunchyroll hasn’t been confirmed as Digimon Beatbreak’s streaming home, even if most fans consider this to be a foregone conclusion.

Audiences will witness Digimon Beatbreak’s first episode on Oct. 5, 2025, and in all likelihood they will need to wait until the following Sunday, Oct. 12, for the second episode. Digimon isn’t the type of series to batch drop episodes and push a binge viewing model. It would be a true surprise if Digimon Beatbreak didn’t follow a weekly release schedule. This approach also allows Toei Animation to get the most bang for its buck, since Digimon anime are usually a big deal that last for at least a full year.

To this point, an episode count for Digimon Beatbreak hasn’t been announced. That being said, the last two Digimon anime — Digimon Adventure: (2020) and Digimon Ghost Game — produced 67 episodes that aired over a year-and-a-half. At this point, the shortest Digimon anime is Digimon Data Squad, which still had 48 episodes, with the 50-70 range being the franchise’s norm. Digimon Beatbreak is likely to produce an episode count that falls within this range. There’s a rare possibility that Toei adopts a similar approach to what they did with Dragon Ball DAIMA, in which Digimon Beatbreak only produces 20 episodes and focuses on quality over quantity. There’s been nothing to suggest that this is the model that the new series will follow.

Will Digimon Beatbreak Have An English Dub?

There are certain anime that have amazing reputations in Japan, but their popularity doesn’t necessarily translate overseas. Digimon is certainly internationally acclaimed, and the original Digimon Adventure‘s English dub helped introduce new generations to the series. Many Digimon anime have English dubs, but it’s not a given at this point. Digimon Fusion didn’t even finish dubbing its series, and the latest anime, Digimon Ghost Game, still doesn’t have an English dub. There has been no news regarding an English dub of Digimon Beatbreak, and such a possibility could really go either way.

Digimon has had a little extra fuel in its fire as of late, so a Digimon Beatbreak dub could be a conscious attempt to capitalize on this success. Alternatively, no English dub for Digimon Beatbreak wouldn’t be unusual either. One thing is for sure: any English dub for Digimon Beatbreak would likely follow much later, rather than being produced as a simulcast dub. Digimon has never received a simulcast dub, and it’d be a surprise — albeit a pleasant one — if that were to happen with Digimon Beatbreak.

Digimon Beatbreak has already introduced a compelling cast of characters and their Digimon companions. Tomoro Tenma (Miyu Irino) is Digimon Beatbreak‘s 15-year-old protagonist and a newcomer to the Golden Dawn bounty hunters. Tomoro adopts a critical outlook on life and can often be found rhythmically tapping with drumsticks, which could perhaps be what the anime’s “Beatbreak” title references. Tomoro’s Digimon companion is the adorable Gekkomon (Megumi Han), whose insatiable appetite is on par with Tomoro’s careful skepticism.

Alongside Tomoro is Reina Sakuya (Tomoyo Kurosawa), a 16-year-old who counterbalances Tomoro’s careful attitude with a reckless wild card energy that results in her sometimes pushing herself too far in battle in order to come out on top. Reina’s Digimon companion is Pristimon (Mutsumi Tamura), a raccoon-like creature who has not just been by Reina for most of her life, but even protectively acts like Reina’s big sister.

Makoto Kuonji (Arisa Sekine) is Golden Dawn’s youngest member at 10 years old, but he’s hardly immature. Makoto is wise beyond his years and embraces his role as Golden Dawn’s earnest analyst who handles the work that many other members avoid. Makoto works together with his Digimon, Chiropmon (Misaki Kuno), who exhibits a more playful and passionate personality.

Finally, Golden Dawn is led by Kyo Sawashiro (Yōhei Azakami), the lone adult of the group who is as generous as he is brilliant. Kyo’s Digimon is the most intense of the lot — Murasamemon (Daiki Hamano). Murasamemon is a powerful warrior who typically leads the way in battle. He’s also the only Digimon so far in Digimon Beatbreak whose pre-evolved form has been revealed. Murasamemon’s previous form, Cougarmon, loves to sleep as much as Murasamemon loves to fight.

Outside of Digimon Beatbreak‘s characters and cast, the anime’s production is rounded out by Ryota Yamaguchi (Sailor Moon Stars) and Hiroaki Miyamoto (One Piece) as Beatbreak‘s series composition/writer and director, respectively. Takahiro Kojima (Digimon Ghost Game, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero) is responsible for character designs, while Kenji Watanabe (Project A-ko 4: Final) handles Digimon designs.

Is Digimon Beatbreak Connected to the Original Digimon Anime?

The Digimon franchise has thrived through its alternate universe approach to its storytelling. However, this is still a series that lovingly embraces nostalgia and understands that there’s still incredible love for the original Digimon Adventure universe. Not only have multiple legacy sequels been created for Digimon Adventure in recent years, but there’s even a remake of the original series.

Accordingly, audiences would celebrate if Digimon Beatbreak was somehow connected to the original series, either through returning characters, concepts, or Digimon. There is currently nothing to suggest that Digimon Beatbreak shares ties to Digimon Adventure. None of the revealed Digimon are even Digital Monsters that have been seen before. It’s a completely fresh slate, although this doesn’t mean that some Agumon variation couldn’t show up.

Digimon Beatbreak may not tie back to the original timeline, but it’s likely to continue the franchise’s recent trend of more mature storytelling. Digimon seems to understand that a large portion of its audience are fans who grew up with the series and are now adults who are capable of bolder storytelling. Digimon Ghost Game, while coming across as a cute, episodic kids show, still touched on some surprisingly dark ideas and featured a jarring amount of death.

Digimon Beatbreak may be completely original, but it’s likely to carry a comparable tone to Digimon Adventure tri., Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, and Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning. Of course, part of the fun with Digimon is to be surprised and get lost in its wild world. Excitement awaits on Oct. 5.
