2025 marks the 20th anniversary of a major anime in the history of the Transformers franchise. Now, the latest toy line for the brand is honoring this with new figures for an Autobot and Decepticon derived from that anime.
Transformers: Age of the Primes is set to have multiple new action figures based on the Unicron Trilogy anime, and this includes Transformers: Cybertron. While one is a repaint of a previous release, the other is an all-new mold based on a faction-changing character from this anime. The announcement of the figures also comes as Transformers: Cybertron is now more easily available to watch than ever before.

Transformers: Age of the Primes Will Feature 20th-Anniversary Transformers: Cybertron Figures
The latest toys to be revealed for Hasbro’s Transformers: Age of the Primes are the Deluxe Class toys for Sideways and Excellion, with both of these characters derived from the anime Transformers: Cybertron. The anime debuted in 2005, making the announcement of these new figures an unexpected 20th-anniversary celebration. As before, Sideways is a Decepticon who transforms from a robot into a stealth bomber jet. He retains his sword and bladed shield weapons, as well as a Cyber Planet Key accessory. However, it doesn’t appear that his key activates a faction-changing gimmick, as in the original figure. Sideways is listed as a descendant of Liege Maximo Prime, with that character debuting in the final issue of the Transformers: Generation 2 comic book by Marvel Comics.
Just like in the Transformers: Cybertron toy line, Excellion is a repaint of Hot Shot (who was called Exillion in Japan) — in this case, the Transformers: Legacy “Cybertron Universe” Hot Shot action figure. His color scheme and design are similar to Generation 1 Hot Rod, including his similar-looking unlicensed Chrysler ME 412 vehicle mode. He also has a non-firing version of his classic blaster and Cyber Planet Key that lacks a functional purpose besides nostalgia. Excillion wasn’t actually in the anime, but hardcore fans will still likely recognize him.
These figures can now be pre-ordered online for $24.99, having been listed on Walmart’s website as upcoming releases. The box art also displays the Transformers: Cybertron logo on the back, letting newer fans know where the characters are from. Released in 2005, Transformers: Cybertron was the final anime in the Unicron Trilogy, though it wasn’t initially planned as a sequel to Transformers: Armada and Transformers: Energon. The anime, along with other entries in the franchise, have recently become available for digital download purchases, making 2025 a year of nostalgia for the show.
