One of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104’s main setting is a museum to Earth’s greatest heroes. A hall of statues displays various characters, each with a significant role as Earth’s savior. One character who fans never saw coming is even made canon. While some of these heroes are unnamed and unrecognizable, others have a rich history behind them and are an important part of Dragon Ball‘s backstory.

The First Hero Shown is Olibu, King Kai’s Greatest Student Before Goku
Olibu Debuted in Dragon Ball Z Episode 196: “Tournament Begins”
Olibu, or Oribu, is a human Earthling from the North Galaxy, the same as Goku. He’s known for being inspired by Greek heroes and mythology, with every aspect of his design leaning into the inspiration. He first debuted in a non-canon arc called the “Other World” saga, where Goku fought against other dead heroes in the afterlife. Before Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104, Olibu was a non-canon character.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104 Finally Makes Earth’s Strongest Character Canon
Dragon Ball Super has made yet another DBZ filler characters canon, as of Chapter 104.
His canonization comes with interesting side effects, like having Korrin’s tower built in honor of him and even canonizing Pikkon – another fan-favorite character. Could Dragon Ball Super be teasing Pikkon’s return with this reveal? Only time will tell. Olibu was considered the strongest human in his era and inspired numerous stories because of his heroic actions. His courageous actions could even motivate the human fighters to get stronger. With Olibu’s statue right outside, he’s the first recorded hero in human history.

Several Unknown Hereos Appear in the Backgroun
A Summarization of Heroes Shown But Not Explained
After Olibu, rows of statues depict different heroes in no particular order. Each hero seems primarily based on some trope, like Olibu. One hero has a barbarian outfit similar to Conan the Barbarian, and another is a woman dressed in simple rouge gear. Next to her is a man in a dog-like costume reminiscent of DC’s Catman, who is reminiscent of Batman.
Across from “Dogman” is a man dressed like a knight or squire, who may very well be a Dragon Quest reference; next to them is a Sumo wrestler, and next to them is Roshi’s Sensei. There’s also a brief appearance of a helmeted figure wearing a more medieval helmet, and next to him, someone who looks like a pilot – a potential reference to Dragon Quest II specifically.

Master Mutaito Trained Master Roshi & Gave His Life to Seal Away King Piccolo
Mutaito Debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 102: “Enter King Piccolo”
Mutaito is a man mentioned but never seen outside of flashbacks in the original Dragon Ball. He died in Age 461, nearly 288 years before the start of the series. Mutaito is one of the greatest martial arts teachers of all time and was introduced as Earth’s first savior back in the day. Mutaito is responsible for teaching Roshi and Shen all their martial arts skills, which also makes him accountable for Goku’s skill set.
Mutaito’s heroism is attributed to his sacrifice against King Piccolo, where he created the Evil Containment Wave to seal the demon away. Sealing away Piccolo Daimao and using Mafuba kills Muitato, as he gives his life to prevent the extinction of the human race. In anime filler, Goku fights Master Mutaito during the Piccolo Jr. Saga, but this encounter never happens in the manga.
“More than one hero lost their life during their battles.” —Tour Guide.
The Evil Containment Wave went down as one of the Z-Fighter’s most dangerous and last-case scenario techniques, as Goku even mentioned using it during the fight with Goku Black and Zamasu during Dragon Ball Super. Muitato is remembered fondly for giving his life, and the tour guide expresses her mourning that not all heroes get rich and famous after being declared heroes.

A Mysterious Statue That Looks Like Goku is Hidden Away in the Museum
This “Unknown Hero” Was Introduced in Episode 01: “The Secret of the Dragon Balls.”
This statue is obviously Goku, but it paints an interesting concept for the Saiyan. Goku is well known amongst the anime community for one of the strongest fighters on Earth, having protected it numerous times. This statue has his silhouette and hairstyle, but neither his face nor name. As the tour guide stated, some heroes chose to forego revealing their identities.
Most didn’t reveal their identities choosing to forego fame and fortune.— Tour Guide
While it’s totally in character for Goku to not want fame or fortune and not see himself as a hero, (even though numerous times he’s shown that he is), it’s interesting the Earth is celebrating him somehow – though for what acclaim is currently unknown. The most likely assumption is Goku’s defeat of King Piccolo Sr, but the statue’s shape makes Goku look somewhat like an adult rather than a kid.
This is most likely because Toyotaro’s art style and Goku’s age are supposed to reflect a teenager rather than a child. This is the only moment it can be as the only other time Goku’s heroics are on display was with Piccolo Jr when he won the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. This is unlikely, as while the arena was destroyed, Piccolo Jr technically didn’t commit any wrongdoings like his father, Demon King Piccolo. It is interesting to see that of the heroes, Goku is easily the youngest-looking in the hall of statues.

Trunks Takes a Moment to Linger on the Great Saiyaman
Debuted in Dragon Ball Z Episode 201: “I am Saiyaman”
The alter ego of Goku’s son, Son Gohan, the Great Saiyaman also has a statue. The Great Saiyaman emerged when Gohan transformed into a Super Saiyan to disguise himself while fighting bank robbers on his first day of school. To ensure that nobody noted a connection between Gohan and the mysterious “Gold Fighter”, Gohan asked Bulma to create a device to let him change his appearance easily so he could keep fighting crime. This was the birth of the Great Saiyan.
Evil cannot prevail with the Great Saiyaman on the scene! Prepare to meet your doom—Great Saiyaman.
Clearly inspired by his encounter with the Ginyu Force in some attempt to recover from trauma, Gohan has a tokusatsu Super-Sentai bombastic personality as the Great Saiyaman. He strikes ridiculous poses and names all of his attacks with gusto. His design resembles classic series like Kamen Rider with an iconic helmet and a transformation device. Gohan was active as the Great Saiyaman until he retired the form to become a scholar full-time.

The Final Hero is The Greatest of Them All: Hercule
Debuted in Dragon Ball Z Episode 173: “Dende’s Dragon.”
Mr. Satan, also known as Hercule, is the 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th World Martial Arts Champion along with being Earth’s self-proclaimed greatest hero. Satan introduces himself in the Cell Saga, proclaiming that he’ll be the one to defeat Cell. Only to be unaware of how out of his depths he really is. Thus became the greatest joke in Dragon Ball history.
Hercule is just a regular dude living in the Dragon Ball world, and he’s just discovered it. While he intends to pass off the fighting from the Z-Warriors as light shows and magic tricks, he quickly realizes how real this all is. Once Gohan defeats Cell and the Z-Fighters depart to recuperate, Hercule is left alone to take credit for defeating Cell, boosting his popularity in the sky.

Dragon Ball Super Reveals Gohan Never Stopped Training
Dragon Ball Super’s brand-new chapter confirms that Gohan never stopped training, which is perfect for Dragon Ball Super Superhero.
Hercule would keep this gimmick and lie for the rest of his series. Thankfully, the Z-Fighters aren’t interested in money or fame and would be celebrated for defeating Cell, but he did end up saving the world in the Buu saga. By befriending Majin Buu, he creates Good Buu and nearly stops Buu from eating people entirely. Then, he is the one who powers up the Spirit Bomb by rallying the people of Earth to give Goku their energy, just with the caveat of him taking all the credit for beating Majin Buu and boosting his heroic popularity even further. Hercule has no skills besides his silver tongue, and he only wins tournaments by lying his way to the top.
