Netflix’s smash-hit fantasy movie Kpop Demon Hunters is officially the streaming giant’s most popular film of all time. It’s only the beginning for the film, and its numbers are expected to rise even further in the coming days.

Deadline reveals that the Sony Pictures Animation film added 25.4 million views from Aug. 18-24, which brings its total to 236 million views since the film debuted on June 20. With that, Kpop Demon Hunters officially surpassed Red Notice for the top spot on the Most Popular English Films list. Even more impressive, last week was the third consecutive week when the film scored a near 0% audience decline, with both weeks pulling in intervals near 26 million views.

This isn’t the only record that KPop Demon Hunters has been able to shatter with relative ease. Earlier this week, it was revealed that it secured an estimated $18 million during a two-day theatrical opening – beating out Zach Cregger’s runaway horror hit Weapons. The film’s global success on Netflix led to the limited theatrical Sing Along event.

It remains to be seen just how high Kpop Demon Hunters will be able to climb. It still has 24 days left in its 91-day premiere window to grow. For comparison, Red Notice was able to accumulate 230 million views over the entire course of 91 days.

Kpop Demon Hunters revolves around a K-Pop girl group named Huntr/x, who lead double lives as demon hunters. The action picks up when a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, begins to steal away their fans – and the girls soon realize the members are secretly demons in disguise. The film features the voice talents of Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjim Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong and Lee Byung-hun.

Netflix Will Capitalize on KPop Demon Hunters’ Success

The successful theatrical run of Kpop Demon Hunters and its domination on the streaming charts are only the beginning of the story of Huntr/x. It has already been reported that Netflix is planning to develop several follow-up projects, which look to include two sequels, a television series, a short film, and a stage musical.

These projects are all likely to build on what has made the original film such a critically acclaimed masterpiece. From its unique animation and visuals to its catchy musical songs, fans of Kpop Demon Hunters have plenty to look forward to in the coming years as Netflix turns this runaway hit into a bestselling franchise.

Kpop Demon Hunters is now streaming on Netflix.
