The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen has burst onto the scene with a thrilling start. Despite its recent premiere, the series is already climbing the streaming charts, though surprisingly, not via Crunchyroll.
According to FlixPatrol, Jujutsu Kaisen has secured the eighth spot on Netflix’s global Top 10 TV Shows list. Impressively, it stands as the sole anime series among these ranks. The show has claimed the number one position in multiple countries, especially in Japan, where it has maintained its top spot for the last three days.
This international success on Netflix arrives amid a somewhat disappointing announcement for Western fans: the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen will be exclusively simulcast on Netflix within select Asian regions. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll will retain broadcasting rights for most other international audiences.
The series’ global success on Netflix comes after Western fans recently got an unfortunate update regarding the show’s streaming plans: Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen will only be simulcast on Netflix in select Asian territories, remaining exclusive to Crunchyroll in most international markets.
JJK’s Streaming Popularity Grows on Netflix Despite Locking Out U.S. Anime Fans
The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen debuted with a one-hour special featuring its first two episodes on Jan. 9, 2026. New episodes are continuing to adapt Akutami’s manga series, taking on an even darker tone and storyline with the “Culling Game” arc, which follows the Jujutsu Sorcerers entering a deadly battle royale in the hopes of freeing Satoru Gojo from the Prison Realm.
With the stakes higher than ever for Jujutsu Kaisen‘s characters, it makes sense that fans across Asia are excited to tune in and see new episodes. Jujutsu Kaisen entering Netflix’s global charts, despite not being available in Western countries, is further proof of the show’s global impact on a worldwide scale — and how much Netflix missed out on not being able to simulcast new episodes in the West, too.
However, it’s not all bad news for Western fans of Jujutsu Kaisen. Season 3 of the hit Shonen Jump adaptation is also streaming exclusively on Crunchyroll for North American fans. The first season and the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 are also available on Netflix, giving new viewers the opportunity to check out the franchise before deciding whether they want to continue over on Crunchyroll.
Jujutsu Kaisen Fans Already Got a Sneak Peek of JJK Season 3 in 2025
Jujutsu Kaisen‘s global streaming dominance on Netflix is even more incredible considering that, as of writing, only the first episode of Season 3 has dropped, and superfans were already able to watch it in a special theatrical release. Last December, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution was released around the world to build momentum for the new season, giving fans the chance to witness the Shibuya Incident on the silver screen while also debuting the first two episodes of the Culling Game.
The film clearly worked to build up hype for Season 3, and it was a box office success in its own right. Execution grossed over $40 million worldwide, including $16.5+ million domestically. Not surprisingly, it also performed strongly in Japan, where it earned nearly $12 million (~ 1.9 million yen.)
The anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen has been going strong since 2020, telling the story of high school student Yuji Itadori after he accidentally becomes a vessel for a villainous and immensely powerful sorcerer. Itadori begins working with a secret organization of sorcerers to eliminate supernatural threats.
The anime adaptation has regularly topped the charts as one of the most-watched anime series in the years that it’s dropped new episodes, even being named by the Guinness World Records in 2024 as the “most in-demand animated TV show”, breaking a record previously held by Attack on Titan.
Jujutsu Kaisen‘s “Culling Game” arc is now streaming on Netflix in Asia, and on Crunchyroll in North America.
