Yuki Tabata’s original Black Clover manga debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2015 and swiftly captivated readers with its supernatural-action themes. The story follows Asta, a young orphan in a world brimming with magical energy, who, ironically, lacks any magical power himself. In contrast, his friend Yuno is a natural talent. Together, they fuel a spirited rivalry as they pursue the title of Wizard King, determined to safeguard their world from the various monstrous threats it faces.
New Black Clover Anime Gets Major Shonen Jump Reveal in 2025
The original, still ongoing Black Clover manga by Yuki Tabata premiered in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2015 and quickly found a footing with fans as the latest supernatural-action shonen series. Black Clover revolves around Asta, a young orphan living in a world replete with magical mana who, unfortunately, has no mana of his own with which to practice magic; meanwhile, his friend Yuno is effectively a prodigy. The pair go on to enjoy a fierce yet friendly rivalry as they both embark upon adventures to become the next Wizard King and protect their world from the myriad of monstrous horrors that threaten it.
The Black Clover anime series premiered in 2017 to widely positive reviews from critics and audiences. For comparison, the “Popcornmeter” score for Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King currently stands at 92%, as averaged across more than 1,000 reviews.
In July 2025 at Anime Expo, fans got their first look at the next series, or season, of the Black Clover anime, courtesy of a teaser trailer released by streaming giant Crunchyroll. Like the original Black Clover, the upcoming series will be animated by Studio Pierrot, who will continue to adapt the events of the original manga.
