Magic: The Gathering is crossing over with the Final Fantasy series in a big event set, one that has been a huge success for the card game. Along with The Lord of the Rings set from the past, these high-profile crossovers have opened the door for all kinds of franchises to become part of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
Some franchises are absent from the list because they have competing card games, notably Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and several with games produced by Bandai Namco, like Digimon and One Piece. These would be huge, but getting multiple companies to agree might be a problem, even though Square Enix was able to work something out despite having a Final Fantasy TCG.

Monster Hunter Needs an MtG Crossover
Rathalos & Rathian Are Ideal Fits for Magic
The Monster Hunter franchise has gradually expanded into the wider mainstream over time, with Monster Hunter Wilds being a huge hit in 2025. Now that it has attention from international fans, it would make sense for it to be part of a Magic: The Gathering crossover, much like how Godzilla was during the Ikoria era.
A series whose entire premise involves giant monsters being hunted by warriors with audacious anime weapons is such a natural fit for Magic: The Gathering that it’s surprising it hasn’t happened before. Turn the weapons into fancy Equipment cards and adapt the Monster Hunter creatures into high Power/Toughness, and call it a day. Rathian and Rathalos would fit right in with Magic‘s most powerful dragon cards.

A Magic and DC Comics Crossover Feels Plausible
A Marvel Vs. DC Crossover Can Happen in MtG
Magic: The Gathering has crossed over with Marvel Comics in the past, with a Spider-Man set planned for 2025. This could easily produce enough material for multiple sets, but the most exciting way to entice players is to branch out with another superhero universe crossover, namely: DC Comics.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Soulcalibur II are some of the greatest crossovers in Nintendo history.
Putting characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Green Lantern into Magic: The Gathering would be huge enough on its own, but having the opportunity to throw them against the Marvel characters would be a dream come true. The only question is whether people are going to be annoyed if they think a character is too strong or too weak, especially when facing characters from the other company.

Shin Megami Tensei and Persona Would Work Well With Magic
Mara Probably Won’t Be Invited
The Shin Megami Tensei and Persona franchises have helped reinvigorate the JRPG genre, with their darker tone, different approach to monster collecting for the former, and the scheduling mechanics and gorgeous aesthetics of the latter. Both franchises are overflowing with characters and monsters that would fit right in with Magic: The Gathering.
A Phantom Thieves of Hearts Commander Deck with Joker as its lead, with characters who can summon monsters or reduce the cost of Sorcery or Instants would be incredible. For Shin Megami Tensei, a Demi-Fiend deck centered around forcing the opponent to pick or Law or Chaos options when using effects against them would also be a great fit. Dante from Devil May Cry could also be the chase card of the set.

Kingdom Hearts Is Already a Crossover Series
Sora Needs to Be Reunited With Sephiroth
Getting Disney on board with characters like Mickey Mouse might be tough, especially as it has Lorcana, a competing card game on the market. Kingdom Hearts could be the exception to this, especially as Sora and his crew have yet to appear in Lorcana, and they’re generally never included in crossover content with other Disney properties.

This Iconic Puzzle Game Crossover is One of the Best Nintendo DS Titles
Capcom and Level-5 teamed up to create an underrated Nintendo classic.
The Kingdom Hearts cast is a better fit for Magic: The Gathering than the standard Disney heroes, as they’re essentially Final Fantasy characters. Putting Keyblades into Magic: The Gathering would be something anyone running an Equipment deck would want, even if they weren’t mechanically powerful.

Star Trek Has Plenty of Potential Commanders
Magic Players Could Tap to Fire a Photon Torpedo
Magic: The Gathering has already crossed over with Doctor Who, so it’s time to go for another big science fiction property, one that has had several TCGs of its own in the past. Star Trek would easily fit the four Commander Decks format that is often used with Universes Beyond products.
A Star Trek set could easily have Commander Decks based on generations, such as a Kirk-era deck, or maybe break it down by factions, such as a Federation or Klingon one. Either way, big vehicles would likely play a part, especially if all of the Enterprise ships are going to appear. All the crossover really needs is for the Borg to capture enemy creatures and Artifacts.

Sonic the Hedgehog Could Bring Speed to MtG
Magic Needs More Video Game Crossovers
Getting Nintendo characters in Magic: The Gathering would probably be a tall order, but Sega would be all over a crossover, especially with Sonic the Hedgehog movies doing numbers at the box office. The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog could certainly be part of a smaller Secret Lair set, rather than being a whole event.
Even if a Sonic crossover was smaller in scale, fans would pay big dollars for a black/red Shadow the Hedgehog that can be used as a Commander. Getting Sonic in there with a Super Sonic Transform effect, a Robotnik that can spawn robot tokens, and a certain subset of the Internet will throw their wallets at their computer screen, trying to buy them all up.

Minecraft Could Let Players Saddle the Chicken
Now’s the Perfect Time for Another Minecraft/Magic Crossover
These franchises have already crossed over, as there are Magic: The Gathering skins available in Minecraft. That said, when it comes to the tabletop game, getting the biggest video game of all time adapted into cards would be a huge get, especially considering how popular the Minecraft movie has been.

Magic: The Gathering: 15 Planes That Should Be D&D Settings
Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons have had plenty of crossover over the years, but which MTG settings would make for the best D&D books?
In terms of mechanics, the Minecraft cards would have to be centered around building and using resources outside of mana. This would likely require the use of specialty resource tokens similar to Food to let the player tutor Equipment or Vehicles from the deck. There are also plenty of Minecraft monsters that could fit into Magic: The Gathering, with the Ender Dragon being the big, heavy-hitter.
It’s Time to See the Return of the Cliff Racers
The Elder Scrolls has seen a recent resurgence of interest thanks to the popularity of the Oblivion remaster. With Skyrim haunting every major video game console, the franchise has never really left the public consciousness, so it’s always a good fit for a Magic: The Gathering crossover, especially with Fallout already receiving its own Commander Decks.
If The Elder Scrolls had a Commander Deck crossover, then it’s possible they could each represent an era of the game, with Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind receiving their own, with Daggerfall and Arena combined into their own. It’s also possible that Factions could get their own Commander Decks using cards from across the generations, such as the Dark Brotherhood, College of Winterhold, and the Blades.

A Resident Evil/Magic Crossover Would Be Tons of Fun
Magic Make Jill Sandwich Food Tokens
Seeing that Magic: The Gathering just had an 80s horror-themed set with Duskmourn, it isn’t too much of a jump for the Resident Evil franchise to become part of Magic: The Gathering. The game has already crossed over with The Walking Dead, so Capcom’s survival horror games could easily become part of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.

Naturally, a Resident Evil/Magic crossover would be heavy on zombies, with the larger B.O.W.’s being larger creatures, leading up to the Tyrants as the boss monsters. It’s easy to picture a black and green Umbrella deck versus a red and white S.T.A.R.S. deck, with the latter containing the various Resident Evil protagonists, all loaded up with their guns as Equipment cards and the herbs as healing artifacts.

A Star Wars Crossover Would Be Huge
Return of the Jedi to the Hand
Star Wars does have a competing card game, Star Wars: Unlimited, but it’s had many TCGs over the years, none of which have had the staying power of Magic: The Gathering. The franchise is also big enough and crosses over with so many other things (like Fortnite) that it wouldn’t be unusual to see Star Wars in Magic: The Gathering.
Like Final Fantasy and The Lord of the Rings, a Star Wars crossover would be big enough to justify its own set, plus Commander Decks. There are so many iconic Star Wars characters from across the nine movies that there would be a ton of potential for Commander Decks, with the most likely being Jedi, Sith, Rebel Alliance, and the Empire. Just getting Darth Vader as a black/red Commander would make this set worthwhile for many fans.
