Dokja’s life has now become part of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse, and the only way for him to survive is to find strong allies and get in cahoots with the protagonist, Junghyeok. However, Junghyeok is not an easy main character to handle and get along with, because if he were, Dokja wouldn’t find himself as a monster’s food just to demonstrate he’s strong enough to aid Junghyeok in his endeavours.

Once Dokja proves himself by surviving in a monster’s stomach, he doesn’t get a break because the start of the next scenario is imminent, and it’s here where more of the novel’s characters show up. If they are good or evil is still debatable, at least for some of them, but thanks to his knowledge of the storyline, Dokja can take advantage of their skills and use them for his own benefit—and survival. Pildu Gong is one such character and seems to be quite formidable if only he weren’t obsessed with owning property and becoming a landlord, which is bound to cause strife in the next scenario. In fact, the next scenario requires people to survive monster waves for a week either by fighting the monsters or hiding themselves in green zones scattered around the tube station where the scenario is taking place. But what happens when a landlord appears and takes control of the green zones? Lucky for the people (or maybe unlucky?) Dokja has a plan in place, so it won’t be long before everybody has to fight, regardless of their wishes.

However, in the midst of the fighting confusion, Junghyeok disappears, which doesn’t go down well with Dokja as he knows what will happen to the protagonist. With the help of Sangah, Myeongoh, Hyeinseong, Gilyeong and a new powerful character Jihye Lee, Dokja enters a secret scenario to find and save Junghyeok from dying and regressing to the past. After all, if the main character dies, what will happen to Dokja, who is a being existing outside the novel?

Dokja though soon finds out that he’s not the only reader of the novel their world turned into as there is a group of people calling themselves the Oracles who say they know the future. Will they become friends or foes? And what do they want with Junghyeok?

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint Volume 5 cover

As the readers learned from the first volume, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is full of action, as scenarios after scenarios appear. With each volume, the readers also get a better understanding of the world-building as more information are released, and although the narration is from Dokja’s point of view, which is quite omniscient, there are still plot twists that the readers can’t see coming, also thanks to the fact that what Dokja knew was supposed to happen is being distorted by the people who are calling themselves Oracles—readers of the novel but who stopped reading it before the end. If they are an asset to Dokja is still to be determined, but he won’t be able to make a decision until he finds out more.

The manhwa characters’ growth, both in skills and as personas, is quite visible in these couple of volumes. Dokja plays a part in it, but people who were supposed to be dead in the novel are now becoming strong allies, and whether Dokja wants it or not, he seems to start to care for them and help with their survival. Gilyeong is just a kid, but he realises that in this new world he has to fight and kill if he wants to see another day, and he sees Dokja as someone to admire and follow because he showed the kid multiple times that he is a worthy leader. Dokja too seems to have a soft spot for the kid, so I’m curious to see how this almost brotherly relationship will develop.

Killing has become the norm in the scenarios, and it’s encouraged, so if any reader is squeamish, this might not be the series for you. It’s violent and gory but it’s not as graphic as Solo Leveling, for example. Both volumes have a dark colour palette, not only to match with the violent scenarios but also to match the setting of the volumes that happen to take place into underground tube stations. The end of the volumes gives a snippet of what is about to happen and shows some short stories featuring side characters. Translation notes are also at the end of the volume, which readers can only find out about when they reach that point as there is no indication in the main story that further explanation about a word is available.

Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint started as a novel written by singNsong before being adapted into a manwha by UMI (REDICE STUDIO) with art by Sleepy-C. The manhwa is serialised on Webtoon, and it’s released in volume format by Ize Press with Hye Young Im’s English translation. The live action movie was released in South Korea in the summer of 2025 and the anime is in the works with no release date yet. Volume 6 is already out.
