Arguably the most famous webtoon in publication right now, Solo Leveling has been making waves in both the domestic and international markets. Written by Chungong and illustrated by Gee So-Lyung and Redice Studio, Solo Leveling is based on a light novel bearing the same name. With intricate world-building, vivid artwork, and substantial character development, Solo Leveling manages to create a story that keeps the reader itching for more.

Set in a world riddled with the appearance of mysterious portals, called “GATES,” the story follows the adventures of Sung Jin-Woo, the weakest E-Rank Hunter, as he defies the odds stacked against him, to cement his position as the Strongest S-Class Hunter. Sung Jin-Woo, much like a gaming character, manages to level up by clearing missions and slaying monsters. With an arsenal of shadow soldiers and ground-shattering abilities under his command, Sung Jin-Woo would prove to be a potent threat to any and all who oppose him.

Could Beat: Gon (Hunter x Hunter)

The young rookie hunter is surely a force to be reckoned with in his verse. With his Enhancement type Nen and the Ja Ja Ken as his finisher, Gon has surpassed foes and surprised his compatriots over and over again. His most notable achievement would be in his battle against Neferpitou, with the latter claiming that Gon in his enraged form would even pose a serious threat to Meruem.

But despite his awe-inspiring achievements and power-ups, Gon would still come up short in a battle against Sung Jin-Woo. Sung Jin-Woo alone, with his massive strength and mobility, would prove to be a formidable foe, and adding the vast array of shadow soldiers would give an end result with Sung Jin-Woo coming out as the victor.

Would Lose To: Sousuke Aizen (Bleach)

The former Captain of the Gotei 13 turned traitor, Sousuke Aizen was a character who’d send tremors with his mere presence. With his Kyoka Suigetsu, which can control all 5 senses of his opponents trapping them in Complete Hypnosis, and his near immeasurable spiritual power, Aizen had very few foes who could be called as his match.

In the face of such daunting power and abilities, Sung Jin-Woo, even with his shadow army and vast array of abilities, would still find himself on the loser’s end in a fight with Aizen. After all, what use is his army, if he himself is stuck in a state of Complete Hypnosis, unable to even identify his foe.

Could Beat: Midoriya (My Hero Academia)

The once quirk-less kid, now the wielder of the One For All, Izuku Midoriya is well on his way to becoming the next Symbol of Peace. With his innate desire to become a hero, his willingness to work hard, and his never-give-up attitude in face of grave danger, Midoriya has managed to thwart his foes over and over again. His quirk, the One For All provides him a massive power boost, the kind that his body can’t still handle to the fullest.

Midoriya, in a one on one battle against Sung Jin-Woo, would sadly find himself completely overwhelmed. Not only does Sung Jin-Woo possess a strength that can rival Midoriyas, he still has his abilities coupled up with his trusted Shadow Soldiers, giving Midoriya a fight that he can’t win.

Would Lose To: Saitama (One Punch Man)

With strength that has no limit, and the ability to destroy even the toughest of foes with a single punch, Saitama is arguably the strongest character, not only in his verse but in all of anime history. His feats far surpass the imagination of ordinary mortals and is even shown to be unfazed when facing threats that could very well destroy the planet.

In the face of pure, unbridled strength, the kind that Saitama possesses, Sung Jin-Woo, with all his tricks and abilities, would still fall prey to the One Punch Man, and that too by a notable margin.

Could Beat: Tanjiro (Demon Slayer)

The young demon slayer, who’s on a mission to hunt down the demon who slew his family and transformed his sister, has always found ways to slay his enemies, whether it be through pure skill or through his undeniably strong will power. A wielder of the Water Breathing Style and Hinokami Kagura, Tanjiro is a more than capable swordsman who can hold his own against formidable foes.

In a battle of weapons, Tanjiro would find his hands full against the blades of Sung Jin-Woo, who has proven his mettle in the art of wielding blades time and time again. And should Tanjiro find a way to fend off the massive barrage of blades, he would inevitably find himself against an army of shadow soldiers, which would be an obvious one-sided battle.

Would Lose To: Jin-Mori (The God of Highschool)

The young, carefree, and fight obsessed teen later revealed to be none other than the Great God Sun Wukong (The Monkey King), is one such character whose power extends far beyond the comprehension of others around him.

With superhuman strength and superhuman speed, Jin Mori is already a deadly martial artist in his base form. Add the awakening of his otherworldly powers to this lethal equation, and you have a character whose match is far and few. Sung Jin-Woo would indeed have a close battle with Jin Mori, but the latter with his godly powers would undeniably take the victory in the end.

Could Beat: Luffy (One Piece)

The Captain of Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D.Luffy, has grown from being an annoying little kid to A power that even the World Government is wary about. The Gomu-Gomu No Mi Devil Fruit gives his body the properties of rubber, an ability that Luffy has utilized to its maximum, allowing him to take down numerous enemies.

Equipped with all three kinds of Haki, and the Gomu Gomu No Mi Devil Fruit, Luffy would definitely give Sung Jin-Woo a run for his money, but the latter would come out on top, using his vast shadow army and his generals to wear down Luffy, before finishing the job himself. Even with Gear 5 and Luffy’s confirmed toon force abilities, Jin-Woo could wipe an entire planet from existence, erasing Luffy entirely.

Would Lose To: Ainz Ooal Gown (Overlord)

Guildmaster of Ainz Ooal Gown and Overlord of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Ainz Ooal Gown is a spell-caster who’s wildly recognized as the strongest magician in his verse. With spells that can summon meteors and even stop time, Ainz Ooal Gown is one overpowered character who has no shortage of ways to defeat his foes.

Sung Jin-Woo, although adept in using magic, would fall short in a battle of spells against Ainz Ooal Gown. Although his physical attributes along with his Shadow Army give him an edge, Ainz Ooal Gown would come out on top in what would only be a very narrow victory for the Overlord.

Could Beat: Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tail)

Natsu Dragneel, also known as the Salamander, is a mage from the guild Fairy Tail, who with his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic has defeated countless foes and saved his guild and country numerous times. The ability to eat fire, and then turn it into his power, along with his destructive spells makes him a force to be reckoned with.

In what would be a close and fierce battle, Natsu would definitely give Sung Jin-Woo a battle that’ll take him to his very limit. But in the end, the latter would come out on top, his shadow army proving to be the deciding factor against a worn-down Natsu.

Would Lose To: Goku (Dragon Ball)

A Saiyan with limitless potential and the ability to improve and adapt in between battles, Son Goku is definitely a character whose powers have no comparison. With numerous transformations under his belt, Son Goku is a character known to take down universal level threats.

Sung Jin-Woo would be well out of his water in a fight against Goku, the latter being a much more experienced fighter with the ability to destroy planets. Super Sayian in and of itself would be a major challenge for the necromancer, and the following transformations would only turn this into a one-sided battle.
