The Dragon Ball Daima anime staff will not confirm the number of episodes planned for the 40th-anniversary series. Akio Iyoku, an executive producer of the Dragon Ball franchise, shot down an opportunity to confirm how many episodes Daima will have or how long the series will run.
On Jan. 1, 2025, Iyoku appeared as a guest on the “All Night Nippon – Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Special” on the Nippon Broadcasting System. For 20 minutes, Iyoku talked all things Dragon Ball, such as the currently airing Dragon Ball Daima and past projects like Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. During that short time, Iyoku refused to reveal when the final episode of Dragon Ball Daima would air and whether it would be the series finale.

Dragon Ball Executive Producer Admits Daima’s Episode Titles Have a Hidden Meaning
A social media user named Andy 案太郎 (@/peraperayume) on X (formerly Twitter) took notes of Iyoku’s comments during the radio program. Iyoku recommended that fans rewatch the 12 episodes of Daima that have aired so far, as the premiere of Episode 13 will be delayed for the New Year holidays. He also made an interesting comment about the episode titles that have appeared so far. According to Iyoku, the red Japanese characters in the episode titles have a deeper meaning or hint at something on the show. Iyoku couldn’t elaborate further, but fans online are currently speculating that the red characters could be related to the special password needed to summon the dragon for the Demon Realm Dragon Balls. This wouldn’t be the first time Dragon Ball Daima has hidden a secret message in plain sight.
Iyoku spoke briefly about the conception of Dragon Ball Daima. He said the series acts as a perfect return point for longtime Dragon Ball fans, while also serving as an entry point for new fans thanks to the brand-new fantastical setting that’s different from most recent works. Instead of just making one character “mini,” like Dragon Ball GT did with Goku, the Dragon Ball Daima anime staff believed it would be more fun if almost everyone turned small following the events of the “Majin Buu” saga.
Perhaps the most fascinating comment Iyoku made during the radio interview was suggesting the Jump Festa stage venue felt like it was breaking after Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actor of Goku, performed the Kamehameha wave for the crowd. Of course, Iyoku wasn’t being literal. Still, given the recent news of Kazuki Yao stepping down from the role of Franky in One Piece due to age, it’s interesting to see Iyoku reassure fans that Nozawa is still in tip-top shape after voicing Goku for nearly 40 years.

The only clue about the total number of episodes for Dragon Ball Daima is a rumor that states there will be at least 20 episodes. Episode 13, “Surprise,” seems to be setting up all the pieces for the series’ endgame, as all three Demon Real Dragon Balls have already been claimed by Goku, Vegeta and Dr. Arinsu.
Dragon Ball Daima Episode 13 won’t premiere until Jan. 10, 2025. However, on that day, fans will receive a double dose of Daima, as the anime’s English dub will officially premiere on Crunchyroll on Jan. 10. “Goku and company were living peaceful lives when they suddenly turned small due to a conspiracy!” the series’ official description reads. “When they discover that the reason for this may lie in a world known as the ‘Demon Realm,’ a mysterious young Majin named Glorio appears before them.”
