Warning: This article contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 8, Episode 5, entitled “History’s Greatest Villain.”
The eighth and final season of My Hero Academia is rapidly distinguishing itself as a highlight of the Fall 2025 anime lineup. The series has already delivered exhilarating moments, such as Bakugo’s triumphant victory against All For One. Now, the spotlight shifts to Midoriya, who steps up to face Shigaraki in an intense clash unveiled in the fifth episode of this season. Fans eagerly await the continuation with Episode 6, titled “Wrench it Open, Izuku Midoriya!” which promises to delve deeper into the climactic battle between these formidable opponents.
Throughout the expansive journey of eight seasons, Deku has grown significantly as a hero. Yet, the daunting challenge of confronting Shigaraki Tomura alone remains insurmountable. Fortunately, Deku is not without allies. The predecessors of One For All rally to his side, offering their wisdom and support to craft a strategy aimed at toppling the notorious villain. However, this plan comes with a significant price, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
As far as Deku has come as a hero throughout 8 seasons of MHA, he still stands no chance of defeating Shigaraki Tomura on his own. Thankfully, he has the predecessors of One For All on his side, who help him devise a plan to defeat history’s greatest villain. But it’ll come at a major cost.

Deku Learned That Beating Shigaraki Means Losing The Thing He Holds Dearest in My Hero Academia Season 8 Episode 5
Last week’s episode of My Hero Academia saw the perspective shift from that of Bakugo’s fight against All For One to Deku’s fight with Shigaraki. Izuku Midoriya put up an impressive showing against the new inheritor of All For One’s power, but things took a dark turn quickly. Amid their fighting, Shigaraki was able to lay a hand on Deku’s face, if only for a split second. In that instant, Shigaraki stole the Danger Sense quirk originally held by Shinomori from All For One.
Losing Danger Sense was a major shifting of the tide of the battle, as it was a key factor in allowing Deku to stay a step ahead of the villain. However, the loss turns out to be a hidden blessing in disguise. Because Shigaraki only stole a single factor of All For One instead of the whole quirk, it gives Kudo a surprising idea. He postulates that perhaps passing each individual factor of All For One one incrementally with intentional force could hurt Shigaraki from the inside. Deku doesn’t have enough physical power to possibly win the fight with his fists, but perhaps damaging Shigaraki’s psyche could make the difference.
Kudo recognizes that within Shigaraki’s heart is a dense black ball of hatred. While seemingly impossible to scratch, that ball of hatred has a small crack in it which not even Shigaraki’s regeneration can heal. This is the only weakness remaining in Shigaraki’s defenses, which Deku can feasibly disrupt by attacking from the inside. In order to do so, Deku plans to ‘hand over’ each of One For All’s factors to Shigaraki, but with enough force directed at that small crack to break open a wider hole in Shigaraki’s soul. In the final moments of MHA Episode 164, Deku steels himself with Blackwhip and his remaining quirks, readies Gearshift (Kudo’s quirk), and prepares to give it to Shigaraki with everything he has.
MHA Season 8 Episode 6 Will Force Deku to Part With One For All to Save The World
My Hero Academia Season 8, Episode 6 will open at a critical point in Midoriya’s fight with Shigaraki. After losing Danger Sense, Deku resolves to hand over each factor of All For One to Shigaraki — by force. Using Blackwhip to reinforce his muscles, Deku prepares to first pass over Kudo’s quirk, Gearshift, which fans saw as a shining light on Deku’s fist at the end of the previous episode.
The episode preview of MHA Season 8, Episode 6 confirmed that Deku will transfer the first of the quirks of One For All to Shigaraki, helping to break through the villain’s psyche. This is his one and only chance to force open a way to Shigaraki’s heart, as alluded to in the upcoming episode’s title: “Wrench it Open, Izuku Midoriya!” Fans will finally see how effective Deku’s plan proves when he and Shigaraki’s battle continues on Saturday, November 8.
