Just before it ended, Star Wars Celebration 2025 (which was celebrated in Japan) announced the third installment of Star Wars: Vision. Fans who couldn’t get enough of the animated anthology that showed Star Wars from different perspectives and art styles will only have to wait a bit longer for the series to continue. Three of the nine episodes were confirmed to be sequels to fan-favorite shorts, while the remaining six are original stories from different anime studios.

The most exciting thing about this announcement is that all nine episodes of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 will be made by some of Japan’s best anime studios. This includes some rising studios, and even industry giants who made some of the most beloved anime of recent memory. That said, it’s worth spotlighting Star Wars: Visions Volume 3’s six upcoming original stories because of how much they will expand what Star Wars can and should be in the very near future.

Yuko’s Treasure Will Star an Adventurous Kid & Her Giant Droid Bear

Animated by Kinema Citrus

Kinema Citrus will return to Star Wars: Visions with a sequel to their first Star Wars short, The Village Bride, and a brand-new story. The new short in question is Yuko’s Treasure. The titular star, Yuko, is an adventurous orphan who was raised by the droid Billy. But unlike any droid seen in Star Wars, Billy is a giant bear who looks more cuddly than mechanical or practical.

Yuko’s Treasure got an exclusive sizzle reel (a fully animated scene but with no voice acting yet). Here, Yuko crashed her speeder into the Jawa’s stuff. Billy bumbles over to Yuko and pulls her out of the rubble, only for them to be surrounded by angry Jawas. What exactly the treasure that the title refers to is currently unknown, but it’s safe to guess that Yuko’s Treasure will be a family-friendly adventure starring a fun kid and her giant bear.

The Smugglers Will Be Set in Star Wars’ Criminal Underworld

Based on its title and character concepts alone, it’s pretty obvious that The Smugglers will take place in Star Wars’ criminal underworld. Furthermore, it will star roguish anti-heroes who all follow in the footsteps of Han Solo. It’s also worth noting that, during the panel, Han Solo was specifically cited as one of the series’ main influences.

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 Will Feature 4 Sequels to 3 of the Animated Anthology’s Best Shorts

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 has been confirmed to stream later this year, and it will feature sequels to three of the series’ most beloved shorts.

Additionally, the Star Wars short will be written by Masahiko Otsuka, one of the two main writers of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It’s difficult not to draw parallels between Cyberpunk’s hit Netflix prequel anime and the upcoming The Smugglers. However, it won’t be surprising if the Star Wars episode also features a heist gone wrong.

The Bounty Hunters Will Follow Star Wars’ Newest Bounty Hunter

Animated by Wit Studio

As its title makes abundantly clear, The Bounty Hunters will focus on a darker corner of Star Wars’ criminal underworld. The masked woman in the spotlight is a bounty hunter, and she flies around in space with her droid. The short will show the duo on their latest job, although not everything is as it seems due in part to the untrustworthy person who hired them.

As of this writing, The Bounty Hunters doesn’t have an attached filmmaker or actor. However, the short will be animated by Wit Studio; the studio that turned Attack on Titan into a global sensation before they passed on The Final Season to Mappa. Little else is known about the short, but the panel promised that it would be action-packed and exciting.

The Song of Four Wings Will Feature Star Wars’ First Magical Girl

Animated by Project Studio Q

From what was said in the panel and based on Star Wars: Visions Volume 3’s first trailer, The Song of Four Wings will be something of a magical girl adventure. The main character has been described to a “princess” who goes on an epic journey. Her power armor is clearly based on the X-Wing Fighter, which explains the title’s reference to “four wings.”

Almost 20 Years Before Star Wars: Visions, These Forgotten Legends Comics Asked What If…?

A series of Legends-era Star Wars comics told what-if stories long before Disney+ offered fans the multi-seasoned Star Wars: Visions animated series.

Unlike Star Wars: Vision’s other shorts, which are still grounded in the films’ reality to an extent, The Song of Four Wings leans heavily into the magical girl genre and its conventions. The trailer even featured a colorful transformation sequence. Expect to see Star Wars’ first magical girl fight against gigantic AT-ATs in the very near future.

The Bird of Paradise Will Reinterpret Star Wars’ Hero’s Journey Through Japanese Mythology

Animated by Polygon Pictures

It goes without saying that The Bird of Paradise will be Star Wars: Visions Volume 3’s most bizarre yet beautiful entry. The short will retell Star Wars’ take on the Hero’s Journey through the lens of Japanese mythology and culture. This isn’t theoretical or hyperbolic; the panel specifically mentioned George Lucas and Joseph Campbell as points of reference.

Based on its sizzle reel and the snippets it got in Star Wars: Visions Volume 3’s trailer, The Bird of Paradise will be more mythic and naturalist in its depcitions of the Force. Think of Rey’s surreal Force visions and journeys in the astral planes from Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, but in the form of digital anime and ancient mythology. Fans will see the Force and Force Users in an abstract way they’ve never seen before.

Black Will Follow a Stormtrooper’s Descent Into Darkness & Madness

Directed by Shinya Ohira, animated by David Production

Black is the first Star Wars: Visions short to star a Stormtrooper. War stories told from the perspective of the Empire have always been popular among Star Wars fans, but this is the first official one. Furthermore, the short seems to be focusing on the horrors and insanity of war. This was made abundantly clear from the featured concept art and the featured fight scene.

Star Wars: Visions Should Bring Back Genndy Tartakovksy’s Clone Wars

The original Clone Wars micro-series from 2003 may no longer be canon, but a certain animated Star Wars anthology could hold the key to revisiting it.

The concept art depicted a Stormtrooper with a cracked helmet, revealing his ragged face and bloodshot eyes underneath. Meanwhile, the fight scene depicted a dogfight between a TIE Fighter and another TIE Fighter. However, the TIE pilot seems to see the other TIE Fighter as an X-Wing. As jazz music played in the background, the fight got more intense as the pilot began to laugh maniacally. Black’s take on combat in Star Wars could be darker and more surreal than fans are used to.

Star Wars: Visions Volumes 1 and 2 are now streaming exclusively on Disney+. Volume 3 streams on October 29, 2025.
