The filming for Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires took place mainly in Auckland, New Zealand. Some scenes were also shot on the North Island and in Wellington. Essential scenes were filmed in different locations and then blended to create the picture of a single venue.

In the movie, Zed, Addison, Eliza, and Willa embark on a road trip that goes off course after an accident leaves them seeking help in a strange location. The cities of Wellington and Auckland provide stunning settings for bringing the Daywalkers and Vampires universe to life on screen.

Mount Rayburn is an important setting in the film as it is where the Moonstone landed and gave rise to two distinct monster species. The beach and cliffside sections of Mount Rayburn were filmed in Piha Beach on Auckland’s west coast and Bethells Beach of Te Henga, which is a few hours away from Auckland. The college scenes were filmed at King’s College, which served as the setting for the fictional Mountain College in the film.

While these picturesque natural settings added a lovely touch to the film, some of the main action sequences required custom sets to fill in the gaps. The Camp Rayburn, where the kids mostly stayed, was created on the sets of the film. The crew managed to give the two sides of the campsite unique traits, highlighting the contrasts between the Daywalkers and the Vampires while still laying the groundwork for their eventual similarities.
