Sorry, royal fashion fans. It seems there’s no new Vogue cover in the works for Kate Middleton. Vogue boss Anna Wintour has dismissed a report that the Princess of Wales, 43, is set to grace an upcoming cover of the storied fashion magazine. 

Wintour doesn’t ‘know’ how talk of a 2025 Kate Middleton Vogue cover started

On Feb. 4, 2025, while at Buckingham Palace receiving an award from King Charles III, Vogue’s longest-serving editor-in-chief addressed a recent report about Kate appearing on the magazine’s coveted front cover. 

The 75-year-old, who wore Alexander McQueen as she was named the Order of the Companions of Honour, an exclusive group limited to 65 people at any given time, was asked whether it was true that Kate had been offered the chance to appear on the cover of Vogue. 

How did she reply? Wintour smiled and said, “Yeah, I don’t know where those [rumors] have come from, do you?” per the U.K.’s Express. 

A January 2025 report claimed Wintour told Kate she could ‘be in charge’ of the cover shoot

Wintour’s comment comes after a January 2025 Mail on Sunday report claimed she’d extended an invite to Kate about a global Vogue cover. 

An unnamed source told the outlet that Kate’s “brave battle” fighting an undisclosed type of cancer in 2024, for which she’s now in remission, has made her a role model. Furthermore, Kate’s status as a “fashion icon” made for a perfect fit. 

“Her story would be an inspiration to so many women going through what she has gone through,” the insider said. 

Kate, they claimed, would also have creative control. The future queen could “choose her own photographer, be in charge of fashion choices, and decide whether or not to grant an interview.” Additionally, Kate would get to pick which covers she would be on. “But the UK and the US would be a given.”

Kate appeared on the cover of British Vogue in 2016

Kate may not have a Vogue cover on the way this year, but she has worked with the famed fashion magazine in the past. In 2016, she appeared on the cover of British Vogue’s 100-year anniversary issue.

As Alexandra Shulman, the magazine’s then-editor-in-chief recalled, via British Vogue, Kate agreed to be photographed only after Shulman pointed out the “connection” to the National Portrait Gallery, which had teamed up with the publication for a special exhibition. (Kate’s served as patron of the NPG since 2012.) 

After “several months” of conversation, the cover shoot for the June 2016 issue happened in Norfolk, England, near Anmer Hall, Kate and Prince William’s country home. 

A laidback cover shoot ensued in the English countryside. Kate’s only stipulation: no formal clothes. The resulting images, taken by photographer Josh Olins, showed her in jeans and lots of plaid and striped prints. 

As for the cover, it showed a smiling Kate wearing a simple white button-down shirt underneath a suede coat. A green hat and Princess Diana’s iconic engagement ring completed Kate’s look. It remains her only Vogue cover.
