Many called it the end of an era when Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour announced that she was stepping down from the position she’s held for 37 years.

The most powerful woman in fashion, who had been at the helm of American Vogue since 1988, informed her staff of her decision in a morning meeting on June 26. Following the announcement, sources stated that Wintour will retain her position as chief content officer of Vogue’s parent company, Condé Nast. In addition, she will preside as the global editorial director, guiding international editions.
