Anticipated Return of Savannah Guthrie to ‘The Today Show’: When Can Viewers Expect Her Comeback?

Savannah Guthrie has temporarily stepped away from her role on The Today Show to concentrate on the search for her missing mother in Tucson, Arizona. This development has left viewers wondering about Guthrie’s return alongside Craig Melvin on NBC.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after she failed to show up at a church gathering hosted by a friend. Authorities discovered an alarming scene at her Arizona home and subsequently released doorbell camera footage capturing a masked man outside her residence the morning she vanished.

Throughout the investigation, Savannah has been vocal, expressing gratitude for the support she’s received and urging anyone with information to come forward. In her determination to find her mother, she has offered a $1 million reward for any leads that could facilitate Nancy’s safe return.

Despite the ongoing search, Savannah has not disclosed when she plans to come back to The Today Show. Her last appearance on the program was on Friday, January 30, just two days prior to her mother’s disappearance.

In Savannah’s absence, the NBC morning show continues with Hoda Kotb stepping in. Although Kotb retired from full-time duties in 2025, she has joined the team in supporting Savannah during this challenging time. Alongside Melvin and their fellow anchors, they wear yellow ribbons daily to honor Nancy and provide regular updates on the case at the start of each show.

It remains unclear whether Savannah will return as an anchor on The Today Show. But here is everything we know so far.

Variety reports Guthrie “is expected to return to the show on her own timeline, even if she requires a significant period to feel ready to do so,” according to a source familiar with the matter. An NBC source also told CNN “her Today family will welcome her back with open arms on her timeline.”

Kotb is expected to continue filling in for Savannah throughout her absence. However, she does not plan on returning to the show full-time.

According to Inside Edition, Savannah is currently living in a gated community in Tucson as the search for her mother continues.

Who is Savannah Guthrie?

Savannah is a staple at NBC. The journalist and attorney first joined The Today Show in 2011 before becoming a co-anchor with Kotb in the first hour of the broadcast in 2012. She is also NBC News’ chief legal correspondent and serves as the lead anchor in the network’s election coverage, in addition to covering the Olympics.

Kotb recently spoke out about her “beloved friend and colleague” while offering an update on her missing mother on The Today Show.

“Living in this uncertainty is agonizing,” Kotb said. “It’s really a plea for anybody because somebody does know something.”
