Though it’s been quite some time since Eva Longoria graced the fictional setting of Wisteria Lane on Desperate Housewives, she has since settled into a new real-life residence. Reflecting on her departure from Los Angeles, she shared insights into her decision with Marie Claire in November 2024.

“My entire adult life unfolded there,” Eva remarked, discussing her move from Los Angeles. “But even before the pandemic hit, I sensed a change. The atmosphere felt different. The impact of Covid-19 only accelerated those feelings. Issues like homelessness and taxes, not to disparage California, made it evident that my time there had come to an end.”

In recent years, Eva, along with her husband José Bastón and their son Santiago, has embraced a lifestyle that sees them dividing their time between Mexico and Spain.

“I recognize my privilege,” Eva acknowledged. “I have the opportunity to escape and explore new places. Unfortunately, many Americans don’t have that luxury; they remain anchored in what feels like a dystopian reality. My heart aches with anxiety and sadness for them.”

Eva clarified that her decision to relocate wasn’t influenced by the political climate, specifically noting that it wasn’t due to President Trump’s re-election.

“I didn’t leave because of the political environment,” the Flamin’ Hot director said on The View: Behind the Table podcast in November 2024. “I left because my work took me there since Land of Women—shooting six months in Catalonia, then four months in Mexico for Searching for Mexico, then back to Spain. Now I’ve been there for years. So I just don’t like that it’s politicized.”

Since moving, Eva has continued to stay busy, with recent projects including her roles in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.
