Bam Margera appears to have had a change of heart regarding his relationship with the Jackass franchise.
According to a report by Variety, the former MTV personality and professional skateboarder has agreed to participate in the upcoming Jackass 5. Although Margera will not be performing new stunts alongside the rest of the cast, audiences can expect to see him in previously unreleased archival footage.
This development is unexpected, given Margera’s previous statements. Just last year, he vowed never to return to the franchise he helped establish in the early 2000s. His decision followed a public fallout with Jackass creators Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine, which led to his removal from the filming of Jackass Forever in 2020.
Margera had expressed his grievances in an interview with CinemaBlend, stating, “They have like new dudes, and what they did to me, making me go to treatment and paying for it, and then not putting me in a movie, and, you know, I had to go to court over it and I just, you couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another Jackass with them. The damage has been done.”
The situation escalated when production halted due to the pandemic, and Margera was not invited back after reportedly testing positive for Adderall, which violated a wellness clause in his contract.
He then launched a lawsuit against Knoxville, Tremaine and Pramount claiming he was wrongfully terminated and suffered “psychological torture in the form of a sham Wellness Agreement,” according to Variety. The lawsuit was later dropped.
Knoxville addressed their falling out in 2022, telling Variety, “We wanted him all throughout the movie, but unfortunately that’s not the way it worked out. It’s really heartbreaking. I love Bam. We all love Bam. He’s our brother, you know? You just hope that he takes it upon himself to get the help that he needs, because we all care about him a lot.”
This may be the closest thing fans will get to a Jackass reunion for now.
Jackass 5 will be coming to theaters June 26th. Knoxville announced the news in a social media post, writing, “Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang. We wanted to let you know that this summer ‘Jackass’ is back!! We will see you in theates June 26th. More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first!!”
This new installment comes four years after Jackass Forever, which featured the same old death-defying stunts, including a nasty run-in with a bull that left Knoxville with a broken wrist, broken rib, concussion and a brain hemorrhage.
Jackass Forever starred several members of the original cast, with some new additions – Zach Holmes, Sean “Poopies” McInerney, Jasper Dolphin, Eric Manaka and Rachel Wolfson. It remains to be seen who will be returning for Jackass 5.
