Barry Du Bois has offered a heartfelt update amid his ongoing cancer battle.

The Living Room host, 63, took to Instagram on Saturday to reflect on his years-long battle with Plasmacytoma Myeloma, a cancer of the immune system.

In an emotional post, Barry shared a candid beachside photo of himself smiling and relaxed while sitting barefoot on the sand, dressed casually in a white t-shirt and matching white shorts.

His silver hair swept back and a neatly groomed salt-and-pepper beard framed his beaming face as he soaked up the sun near sand dunes and a weathered beach shed in the background.

Alongside the image, Barry also posted a poignant photo of a blue surgical glove with the handwritten words: ‘Just because you’re struggling doesn’t mean you’re failing.’

The veteran TV personality then penned a raw caption reflecting on his cancer diagnosis and how he has learned to thrive despite the devastating news.

The Living Room host, 63, took to Instagram on Saturday to reflect on his years-long battle with Plasmacytoma Myeloma, a cancer of the immune system

‘It’s over a decade ago now when I was diagnosed with my first cancer and given a very short time to live,’ he began.

‘(Whilst they got that wrong), the weight of that diagnosis could have crushed me.’

Barry revealed he was initially overwhelmed by ‘fear, uncertainty and the unknown’ until he made a powerful decision to change his mindset.

‘Through it all, I realised something that I feel is why I am here today: It wasn’t going to be cancer that defined me but the way I chose to approach it,’ he continued.

‘My mindset became my greatest ally, and I believe mindset is important to recovery from any serious illness or emotional trauma.’

Barry, who has become a beloved fixture on Australian television thanks to his warm personality and design expertise, went on to encourage his followers to view life’s challenges as an opportunity for growth.

‘Thriving after cancer, or any life-altering experience, isn’t about ignoring the pain or the challenges – it’s about choosing to see life beyond them,’ he wrote.

‘The best way to approach adversity, whether it’s cancer, loss, or any kind of emotional trauma, is to ask yourself, “How can I use this experience to become stronger, wiser, and more connected to the world around me?”‘

The DIY guru concluded his post by sharing a simple yet powerful strategy for building resilience.

‘Focus on small, consistent actions that nourish your body and mind every day – whether it’s a moment of gratitude, a short walk, or setting aside time for self-care,’ he advised.

‘These actions create a foundation of strength and bring clarity during times of uncertainty.’

Barry also extended an invitation to his followers to book him for keynote speeches and workshops, saying he is eager to share ‘practical strategies for navigating tough times, embracing change, and thriving beyond adversity’.

Fans quickly flooded the comments with messages of support, praising Barry’s positive attitude and honesty.

His Living Room co-host Miguel Maestre wrote, ‘The best in the biz’, while Dr Chris Brown added, ‘What an icon,’ alongside a clapping hands emoji.

Meanwhile, retired professional surfer Layne Beachley wrote: ‘So Bloody inspiring Thanks for sharing.’
