An expert observed Barry Keoghan’s behavior on the red carpet, revealing signs that he wasn’t entirely “at ease” or “comfortable.”

After the Oscars wrapped up, celebrities made their way to various afterparties to continue the celebrations.

The Vanity Fair Oscars After Party emerged as the ultimate destination, attracting a host of stars who posed for photos on the carpet before joining the festivities inside.

While most were at ease in front of the cameras, some were not. Here’s what an expert noticed actor Barry Keoghan doing that showed he was not. Plus, what Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet‘s close carpet pose conveys about their relationship.

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.”

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “The video of Barry is quite interesting – his expressions seem very controlled. I don’t think he’s a particularly extroverted person, despite the profession he’s in. He comes across quite controlled and his actions seem deliberate, almost like he’s trying to make a good impression on the carpet. It doesn’t look like a relaxed smile. When you look at the likes of Timothée and Kylie on the carpet, they appear quite chilled and at ease, but I don’t really get that from Barry. He seems very aware that all eyes are on him.

“Interestingly, his foot is also turned in the exit direction — it happens a couple of times and it’s very subtle. He then seems to realize that he needs to stay on the carpet for a few more seconds and turns his foot back. I wouldn’t say he’s completely relaxed in that moment. There are slight confidence signals there, but that’s understandable given the number of cameras and flashes on him. I’d say it’s more of a controlled smile rather than a completely genuine or authentic one. I wouldn’t say he’s being deceptive, but he’s trying to come across in the best way possible. It didn’t look like a particularly comfortable smile and I don’t think he was totally at ease.”

And speaking of Jenner and Chamalet, Stanton shared his thoughts on their appearance together. Chamalet walked the Oscars red carpet solo but joined his lady and posed on the carpet at the Vanity Fair afterparty.

“Timothée and Kylie posing on the red carpet is very telling. This is a protective posture coming from the actor,” the expert explained. “When someone stands behind another person, you might think logically they would stand in front, but when they’re positioned behind them, it’s almost like saying ‘I’ve got your back’. It’s a protective gesture. The fact he’s also got his hand around her abdomen is significant, as that’s quite a sensitive area psychologically.

“Two things come through from that gesture — that he’s incredibly protective over her, and that they clearly share both a physical and emotional connection. In the case of these two, it suggests they have a very strong personal bond and are comfortable in each other’s proximity zone, which is usually reserved for romantic partners or very close family members. Another thing that tells us they’re incredibly close is that their body language is pointing in the same direction. They’ve clearly formed this unconscious matching and mirroring.”
