Zendaya seems to have had marriage on her mind before she was caught sporting her engagement ring at the Golden Globes. However, she may have given hints about her and boyfriend Tom Holland’s future plans months prior.

Zendaya revealed she wanted to play characters who were married

Zendaya reportedly started her relationship timeline with Tom Holland after meeting on the Spider-Man: Homecoming set. A source claimed to People back in 2017 that they were trying to keep their romance under wraps back then. Additionally, they gave some insight into what the pair saw in each other.

“They’re both really ambitious and they challenge each other — but, most importantly, they make each other crack up. They seem to have a really similar sense of humor and love joking around together. They have great banter back and forth,” the source said.

Zendaya and Holland have been going strong ever since. And seven years after they met, it appears the two are going to get even closer. Zendaya was spotted wearing an engagement ring at the Golden Globes that had almost everyone talking. As committed as they are to each other, the couple have been just as committed to their careers as ever before. But although Zendaya has certainly kept busy, she shared she was excited about the idea of settling down. So much so that she wanted to live out her marriage goals in her film roles.

“At some point you have to play characters that are your own age and have experiences that you don’t have—for example, having children or getting married. While those are all things I want and I’m looking forward to, they just haven’t happened quite yet,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

Zendaya had no idea Tom holland was going to propose according to source

Holland’s proposal was a surprise to everyone, including Zendaya, if another source is to be believed. The Uncharted star gave his longtime girlfriend no indication that he was getting ready to pop the question.

“Tom and Zendaya had discussed marriage over the years, but Zendaya had no idea he was planning to propose,” the source told Page Six. “They both value their privacy, so the proposal was something Tom wanted to keep private as well.”

The source further alleged that Holland asked both of Zendaya’s parents for permission to propose. Not only did they give Holland the greenlight, but they’re reportedly just as excited as the power couple is about the marriage.

“Tom and Zendaya’s families are ecstatic,” the insider said. “Zendaya’s mom and sisters can’t wait to start planning with her.”

After their engagement, Zendaya may or may not have given hints about her newfound status as a fiancée to journalists. But nothing was substantiated until she was seen with the evidence at the Golden globes.

Despite her new jewelry, however, the source remarked there are no immediate plans for a wedding anytime soon. Zendaya and Holland are just enjoying the moment right now.

 “It’s far too soon to start thinking about any of that yet. They’re still celebrating the exciting news,” they said.

Like Zendaya, Holland also commented on his desire for marriage a couple of years before the engagement. Speaking with Total Film (via Teen Vogue), Holland touched on what his life could look like in the future. He teased that it might hypothetically be much different from the life that he currently lives in the spotlight.

“I might go and be a carpenter for two years, and take a big break, and come back. Or I might not come back. I might go away, and get married, and have kids, and just disappear for the rest of my life,” he said.
