The head coach of the Benin Republic women’s national team, Abdoulaye Ouzerou, has acknowledged the daunting task his team faces against Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the second leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

The Benin team, known as the Amazons, is set to face their formidable West African rivals today in Abeokuta. They enter the match needing to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first leg, which took place last week in Lomé.

To secure a spot in the WAFCON finals, the Amazons must score at least three goals while keeping the Super Falcons from finding the back of the net.

In anticipation of the match, Ouzerou expressed his recognition of the challenge ahead and commended Nigeria’s persistent and determined approach to the game.

‘Super Falcons play to win’ – Ouzerou

Speaking ahead of the match, Ouzerou acknowledged the difficulty of the task and praised Nigeria’s relentless mentality.

“When the Super Falcons play, their mindset is to win, that’s what champions do,” he said. “We know they’ll want to make their fans happy after winning the WAFCON. For us, the target is to keep improving and hopefully qualify for the next WAFCON.”

Nigeria aim to seal qualification

The Super Falcons, 11-time African champions, are expected to dominate the encounter as they look to secure their spot in the 2026 WAFCON.

With home advantage and strong fan support in Abeokuta, Justin Madugu’s side will be motivated to maintain their unbeaten run in the qualifiers.

Kick-off is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the MKO Abiola Stadium, where a packed home crowd is anticipated.
