Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, are officially eight years old today, June 13.

The superstar mom marked the occasion with a special shout-out during her June 12 concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, part of her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour.

During her performance of “Protector,” a track from Cowboy Carter featuring daughters Blue Ivy,13, and Rumi,8, performing onstage, Beyoncé paused at the end of the song to wish her twins a happy birthday.

“Everybody say happy birthday, Rumi,” she said, encouraging cheers from the audience. “Say happy birthday, Sir! Mommy loves you,” she added.

The show was the fourth of six scheduled nights at the sold-out London venue. Beyoncé will return to the stadium on June 14 and 16 before heading to Paris.

Rumi and Sir were born on June 13, 2017, in Los Angeles, following what Beyoncé previously described as an “extremely difficult” pregnancy. A month later, she introduced them to the world with a now-iconic photo.

Jay-Z later explained how they chose their names. “Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter,” he said. “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

True to their monikers, the twins each have unique personalities. Earlier this year, Rumi made her official musical debut on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album.

Her voice can be heard at the beginning of “Protector” asking, “Mom, can I hear the lullaby please?” The moment made waves with fans and helped Rumi become the youngest female artist ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2024.

Meanwhile, Sir has taken a quieter path. According to his grandmother Tina Knowles, he’s a thoughtful child who prefers numbers and problem-solving over the spotlight. “He’s very, very smart,” she previously shared.
