Billy Ray Cyrus is seeking compensation for legal expenses from a woman who claimed to be Miley Cyrus’s biological mother. The 64-year-old musician has requested that Jayme Lee, who sued him earlier this year, pay $7,564.13 to cover the costs incurred during his legal defense, according to Us Weekly.

Jayme Lee’s lawsuit, previously covered by the Daily Mail, alleged that she is Miley Cyrus’s biological mother and that Billy Ray and his ex-wife Tish Cyrus had adopted the pop star, best known for her role on the Disney Channel.

In response to these allegations, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer dismissed the claims as both ‘delusional’ and ‘absurd.’

The case was dismissed in court on December 5, and now Cyrus is pushing for Lee, aged 45, to reimburse him for the legal fees he accumulated throughout the ordeal.

A judge recently tossed out the case on December 5 – and Cyrus is now asking Lee, 45, to cover his legal fees. 

Daily Mail has reached out to Cyrus’ rep for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

Cyrus filed court documents earlier this week on Wednesday where he made the request that the woman named Jayme Lee pay him $7,564.13 in order to cover legal bills that he racked up after she initially sued him in May, per Us Weekly; seen in 2017 in Las Vegas 

Earlier this month, Daily Mail revealed details of the case in which the Arizona woman alleged that she is Miley’s biological mother, and that the Flowers singer was adopted by Cyrus and Tish. 

After Lee’s attempts to get the famous exes’ attention for months, Cyrus finally responded to the maternity and paternity claims, calling the ‘delusional’ allegations ‘false and absurd.’ 

In an initial complaint filed in May in Tennessee, Lee had claimed she gave birth to Miley in 1992 – making Lee 12 years old at the time – and later entered a ‘private adoption agreement’ with Cyrus and Tish.

Lee said their alleged agreement included that she would be able to choose Miley’s name and work as the child’s nanny and piano teacher.

According to the complaint obtained by the Daily Mail, Cyrus ‘wrongfully assumed the role’ of Miley’s father without Lee’s consent and ‘misrepresented the circumstances’ of her alleged adoption causing Lee ‘severe emotional distress.’

She accused the former couple of ‘breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation, intentional inflection of emotional distress and unlawful interference with parental rights.’

Lee followed up her complaint with an amended filing in June, in which she accused both Cyrus and Tish of ‘child abuse and endangerment’ by making Miley ‘a public figure’ and ‘knowingly placing her in the spotlight.’ 

In the amended complaint, Lee alleged that ‘no valid adoption papers were ever lawfully signed due to the fraudulent inducement and duress under which consent was allegedly obtained,’ and because Lee – who was a minor – ‘lacked capacity to consent.’

In an initial complaint filed in May in Tennessee , Lee had claimed she gave birth to Miley in 1992 – making Lee 12 years old at the time – and later entered a ‘private adoption agreement’ with Cyrus and Tish; Miley seen with Tish and Cyrus in 2019 in L.A. 

She also claimed Cyrus and Tish ‘cut off all contact’ and ‘threatened [her] with police action’ after Miley was born.

‘At 12, in 1992, I was trying to find a lawyer to help me get visitation of Miley but I was brutally attacked and placed in a state of trauma until recently remembering how I came to be the parent of Miley,’ the amended complaint reads.

Lee requested the court to order a supervised DNA maternity and paternity testing of both Miley and her parents, and, ‘pending results of the DNA test and investigation,’ that they ‘revisit the legality of the adoption.’

The woman attempted to get the stars’ attention through a court summons issued to Tish in June and one to Cyrus in November, as well as a request for a trial that was denied by a judge in October.

Lee went so far as attempting to add Dolly Parton, who is also Miley’s godmother, as a defendant to her complaint against Cyrus and Tish, claiming the country music icon had ‘direct and material knowledge of facts concerning the concealment of the true parentage and adoption status’ of Miley. 

Parton wasn’t the only celebrity Lee name-dropped in the court filing, as she listed Julia Roberts, Hillary Clinton, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne and Neil Patrick Harris as ‘eyewitnesses’ in her case. 

She even issued a subpoena to Taylor Swift on November 13, requesting the 13-time Grammy winner return an alleged scrapbook that Lee had made when she was 12 to give to Miley. 

Lee eventually caught the attention of Cyrus on November 20, when the country singer filed a motion to dismiss all of Lee’s claims.

In his motion, Cyrus said Lee’s allegations are ‘false and absurd,’ and were ‘clearly brought for the purposes of harassing’ him and his family ‘and needlessly wasting this Court’s time and resources.’

His lawyer argued that, according to Tennessee law, it is ‘not legally permissible’ to adopt a child in the state without obtaining a court order.

He also pointed out that the standard statute of limitations for breach of contract cases in Tennessee is six years, as well as a one-year statute of limitations for allegations of emotional distress.

On December 1, Cyrus also filed a response in opposition to Lee’s amended complaint alleging child abuse and endangerment, stating he was never served with the motion filed by Lee to amend the complaint and he had only recently become aware of the lawsuit.

The singer requested that the court award him recovery of his costs in attorney’s fees upon a dismissal of Lee’s lawsuit. 

In a statement to the Daily Mail, Billy Ray’s attorney Chase LanCarte revealed Lee’s lawsuit was ultimately dismissed by the Davidson County circuit court on Friday, December 5. 

‘The Court dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice this morning and awarded Mr Cyrus the recovery of his reasonable and necessary attorney’s fees and costs,’ LanCarte exclusively told the Daily Mail.  

Tish has yet to respond to Lee’s allegations. The Daily Mail also previously contacted Lee and representatives for Tish for comment.

Cyrus and Tish, who were married from 1993 to 2022, share five children together.

In November 1992, they welcomed their first child together – Destiny Hope Cyrus, nicknamed Miley. Then, they welcomed their son Braison Cyrus in 1994, followed by daughter Noah Cyrus in January 2000.

Cyrus adopted Tish’s children – daughter Brandi Cyrus and son Trace Cyrus – from her previous marriage to ex-husband Baxter Neal Helson. 

Seven months before Miley was born, the singer also welcomed a son, Christopher Cody Cyrus, with ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey.

Despite previous divorce filings and reconciliations, the longtime couple called it quits for good when Tish filed for divorce in April 2022.
