Following Lively’s legal move, Baldoni countered with his own suit, which was eventually dismissed. Despite this, the legal battle between the two continues. Lively, foreseeing the complexities of such a case, was prepared for the obstacles long before she proceeded.
“This wasn’t a decision made on a whim — it was months in the making,” a source told People. “She knew there would be backlash, and she prepared herself for how mentally and emotionally difficult it would be.”
Still, Lively firmly felt she needed to speak out against Baldoni.
“But she can’t go through life knowing she didn’t stand up to something she believed was wrong,” the source said.
She reportedly wants to set an example for her daughters, James, Inez, and Betty. She has four children with Ryan Reynolds.
“As a mom, she never wants her daughters to stay silent in the face of injustice,” says the source. “Right now she’s taking it one day at a time and staying focused on her No. 1 priority: her family.”
The case is now set to go to trial on May 18, 2026.
