The highly anticipated fourth season of Bridgerton is finally here, and it promises to captivate audiences with Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) enchanting and passionate romance with Sophie Beck (Yerin Ha). This latest installment could be the most spellbinding chapter of the Netflix series yet.

Warning: Spoilers for Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1, now available on Netflix

The story begins at Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) glamorous masquerade ball, where Benedict is instantly smitten by the mysterious “Lady in Silver.” However, in his haste, he neglects to ask for her name. As the clock strikes midnight and masks are removed, Sophie makes a swift exit, leaving Benedict with an intriguing puzzle to unravel throughout the season.

The plot thickens as we learn Sophie is actually a humble ladies’ maid, trapped under the thumb of her cruel stepmother, Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung). Sophie only managed to attend the ball because of the anonymity a masquerade provides. Upon discovering Sophie’s secret outing, Lady Araminta promptly dismisses her, pushing Sophie into working for another family plagued by an unsavory son.

When fate brings Sophie and Benedict together once more, he sees her merely as a maid in need of rescue. Sophie keeps their prior encounter under wraps, setting the stage for a tantalizing dynamic as Benedict finds himself irresistibly attracted to her, despite the societal divide.

Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 ends with Benedict asking Sophie to become his mistress. It’s what society’s rules dictate their romance should be, but is it truly all that Sophie deserves? Meanwhile, we learn that the Bridgertons’ new neighbors in Grosvenor Square are none other than Araminta and her daughters, Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei).
