Brittney Griner is shedding light on her journey into motherhood alongside her wife, Cherelle, as they nurture their 19-month-old son, Bash.

The 35-year-old basketball icon shared her insights with People Magazine during the Sundance Film Festival’s debut of The Brittney Griner Story on January 27th. She reflected on her experiences as a mother and the immense happiness it brings.

“Oh my God. It’s a lot to handle. I understand now why everyone waves goodbye to sleep, especially in those initial stages, but it’s incredibly fulfilling. When I return home and see his smile, it brightens my entire day,” Griner expressed.

In July 2024, Griner and her wife joyfully welcomed their son. During a conversation with CBS Sports at that time, the Baylor University graduate shared how parenthood instantly shifted her outlook on life.

“People say that once you lay eyes on your child, everything else you thought was important just fades away. That’s exactly what happened to me.”

In November of 2024, the couple shared the first images of their son in an Instagram carousel.

“Bash may have the best room in the house. Thank you @strolleria for providing the most comfortable nursing chair and stroller.” Brittney began the caption carousel caption.

She continued, “Relle and I both fall asleep with Bash at night in that chair and wake up without any aches and pains! That’s a plus in my book! @crateandkids proud to partner with you in designing Bash’s room! We love every detail from his amazing book wall collection to his comfortable crib! He sleeps like a big man in his room alone.”

Griner previously said during a recent Atlanta Dream post-game press conference that her son is her “why” and what continues to motivate her.

“He’s my why. It was starting to get to a point where I was like, what is my why? Honestly, and then he came along, and yeah, he’s my why,” she said.

“Like everything I do is for him. I’ll be proud of him once he’s able to really realize everything. … I do it for him, want to provide for him and show him the right way to do things.”
