Taylor Swift’s most recent tour took her across the world on a grueling schedule. It was an elaborate event that required a huge team of people to pull off. Swift made headlines for the huge tip she gave the drivers working the Eras Tour. The owner of the company said Swift had impressed him years earlier with the credits of her Reputation tour documentary.

Swift worked with the transportation company Shomotion for her tours. The company’s owner, Mike Scherkenbach, said that Swift thanked the drivers in the credits to her Reputation tour documentary. He found this impressive and a sign of Swift’s good character.

“They did the documentary on the last tour, Reputation, for Netflix, and she listed my drivers in the credits,” he told Rolling Stone. “To put the drivers’ names in the movie credits? That shows the character of a person.”

He said Swift tried to foster a family environment with everyone who works on the tour.

When Swift’s Eras Tour concluded, Scherkenbach said she gave the drivers a $100,000 tip. 

“She’s giving a sum of money that is life-changing for these people,” he said. “A lot of these drivers are not homeowners, and a lump sum like this gives you the ability to put a down payment on a home. That’s what makes me really happy. That generosity is a game changer for these people.”

Scherkenbach noted that while many of the people they work with give tips, they are typically between $5,000 and $10,000. Swift’s tips were significantly larger than this. Scherkenbach said he doesn’t appreciate the people who point out that this is a small portion of Swift’s overall net worth. She is a billionaire.

“The comments that I read that bother me the most are when they’re comparing [what she gives] to her net worth,” he said. “That’s irrelevant. There are a lot of very wealthy people who choose not to share a dime of it. We work with all kinds of wealthy people, but this is not the norm.”

She recently used her high net worth to purchase her masters

Swift recently put her net worth to use to buy back her masters. She lost control of them when Scooter Braun bought her record label, Big Machine. 

“I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening,” she wrote in a letter on her website. “I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs … to me.”

She said she hopes this sets a good precedent for other artists.

“I’m extremely heartened by the conversations this saga has reignited within my industry among artists and fans,” she wrote. “Every time a new artist tells me they negotiated to own their master recordings in their record contract because of this fight, I’m reminded of how important it was for all of this to happen. Thank you for being curious about something that used to be thought of as too industry-centric for broad discussion. You’ll never know how much it means to me that you cared. Every single bit of it counted and ended us up here.”
