Cardi B and Offset are currently going through a divorce after seven years of marriage. Public fights and cheating accusations marred their time together. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper admitted that even the proposal wasn’t what she had always dreamed about. Though they agreed to get married, Cardi said Offset refused to get down on one knee to propose.

Cardi B said Offset didn’t want to propose in the traditional fashion 

Cardi and Offset were first linked in 2017. He was featured on her song “Lick.” Soon after, they went on their first date to the Super Bowl. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love. In less than a year, they were discussing marriage. 

While Cardi B admitted she had some concerns about marrying him, she told Offset they should tie the knot during an argument.

“And he’s like, ‘You’re playing around,’” Cardi told W Magazine. “And I said, ‘I’m for real. ’”

He agreed, and they had a secret wedding in Offset’s bedroom in September 2017. They wore sweatpants, and she didn’t yet have an engagement ring. She said she’d always dreamed of having a diamond ring and a romantic proposal. At first, he told her she wouldn’t get one.

“[It was my dream] for a guy to get on his knees and ask me to marry him,” she said. “And he was just like, ‘I will never get on my knees. F*** outta here.’”

Ultimately, though, she got her wish. During a concert a month after their secret marriage, Offset got on one knee and proposed with an eight-carat ring.

Cardi B and Offset’s relationship had many ups and downs

Early in their marriage, Cardi and Offset welcomed their first child. They also weathered cheating rumors and a breakup in late 2018. Although they reunited shortly afterward, Cardi said their relationship was full of drama.

“I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything,” she told Elle. “But there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship. It’s always us against the world.” 

She filed for divorce in 2020 but retracted it later that year. They’ve welcomed two more children, but she filed for divorce again in 2024.

The former couple is going through a divorce

In July 2024, while pregnant with the couple’s third child, Cardi filed for divorce. Though she’d accused Offset of cheating, sources said this was not what drove her to leave the marriage.

“They’ve grown apart. That’s what drove her to this decision more than anything else,” a source told Page Six. “This is something she wants to do.”

Over a year later, their divorce is still not final. She said she’s not reconsidering the split and accused Offset of holding her “hostage” in divorce proceedings.

“The only reason why I’m still married is because somebody wants me to pay for their taxes,” she told fans on X Spaces (per Us Weekly). “Y’all wanna know the tea? The only way I can get out of my marriage is if I pay for somebody else’s taxes, even though I pay for my own, and give them one of my properties. I’m fighting for that, I’m gonna fight for that. This is not no love s***.”

She has moved on to a relationship with NFL player Stefon Diggs.
