Early in Cardi B’s fame, she spent hours with Kris Jenner. Here’s what Jenner told her about dealing with criticism.
Cardi B considers herself shy, but she once spent nearly an entire workday chatting with Kris Jenner. Cardi didn’t know Jenner well before this, but she decided to accept the invitation to visit her at her home. Though the rapper didn’t intend to stay for long, she ended up spending hours chatting with Jenner and some of her family members. She said the Kardashian matriarch offered her some advice about the inevitability of facing backlash.

Cardi is a celebrity with many fans, but she said she primarily likes spending time with family and longtime friends. Still, she didn’t think she should pass up an opportunity to visit Jenner. She invited the “Bodak Yellow” artist to her home shortly after she released her album Invasion of Privacy.
“I said I’d go there for an hour,” Cardi told W Magazine.
She ended up staying for seven hours. She chatted with Jenner, her boyfriend Corey Gamble, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West. While any of them could have offered her advice on life in the spotlight, Cardi said the best tip came from Jenner.
“Kris told me, ‘People are going to talk badly about you, but it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re making money,’” Cardi said. “And it’s true.”
She noted that she sees constant negative commentary about the Kardashian family, but this doesn’t seem to impact their wealth or success.
“If you read the online comments, it seems like everybody hates the Kardashians. Each and every one of them,” she said. “But how can that be true if everything they sell sells out?”
After spending time with the family, Cardi posted a picture on Instagram.
“I’m officially apart of the rich people club!!” she wrote. “I’m not poor anymore.”
