Soap opera Beyond the Gates was added to the daytime CBS lineup earlier this year, and the network finally made a decision regarding whether or not the series will snag a season 2 or be canceled.

Was ‘Beyond the Gates’ Renewed for Season 2?

It’s official – Beyond the Gates will be returning for a season 2. CBS announced the news of the show’s renewal in a press release on May 12, 2025, just 11 weeks after the show’s debut.

“The groundbreaking new series is part of the popular CBS Daytime lineup alongside the long-running #1 and #2 series, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, respectively,” the press release said. “The series premiered on CBS on Feb. 24 and since its debut, BEYOND THE GATES has improved the time period +48% in broadcast viewership. Additionally, BEYOND THE GATES, is up +67% in multiplatform viewership from last years’ time period and beats ABC’s “General Hospital” by +7% among W25-54 on broadcast.”

Additionally, CBS renewed the soap operas The Bold and the Beautiful for three more seasons and The Young and The Restless for four more seasons.

What Is ‘Beyond the Gates’ About?

Beyond the Gates, which stars Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Daphnée Duplaix, Karla Mosley and more, airs on weekdays at 2 p.m. ET. According to the press release, the show “is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home.”

“At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty,” the press release continued. “But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have ‘made it’ and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.”

What CBS Shows Were Canceled in 2025?

While it was good news for the cast of Beyond the Gates, CBS surprisingly went forward with a slew of cancellations, including The Equalizer, Poppa’s House, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.

“It’s not easy to end shows and we had a lot of options this year,” Reisenbach said, per Deadline. “The schedule is really full and so we always have to look at all of our shows, look at the aggregate information, the creative of where they are in their life cycle, what the finances look like, what the ratings are, and then we make those tough decisions.”
