The holiday season undeniably ranks among the year’s busiest periods, and anyone would agree. Every December, I envision myself clinging to my beloved films or waiting until the eleventh hour to buy gifts, hoping to conjure some magical extra time that never seems to exist.

Yet, there’s one tradition I never skip: my annual viewing of what I consider the finest episode of Bob’s Burgers ever created: “The Plight Before Christmas.” This gem, nestled in Season 13 as Episode 10, follows Bob and Linda as they realize they’ve overloaded their schedules in their quest to be the best parents during the festive season.

Linda is slated to watch Tina in a holiday play, while Gene participates in a school recital, leaving Louise’s event overlooked. After much deliberation, Bob and Lisa decide to follow through with their plans, promising Louise a chance to perform her poem at home later. Though Louise insists she’s okay—her poem was chosen, but she just wanted to see the word “poop” displayed in the library—Tina senses something amiss. I’ll leave it for you to discover the outcome.

Many films and shows with a holiday theme claim to capture the essence of the season, but few do it justice. Even fewer recognize the pivotal role of siblings in navigating life’s journey.

Having a large family myself, with seven siblings, I’m constantly reminded that siblings are the enduring constants in life. If you’re fortunate, you have a lifelong friend and partner through thick and thin—and sometimes a rival, as no one can irritate or challenge you quite like a sibling. “The Plight Before Christmas” captures this dynamic perfectly, showcasing the significance of sibling bonds.

To be truthful, I have yet to watch this episode of what is otherwise a very silly show — and trust me, you will still laugh at this one — without shedding a tear or two. It’s the epitome of bittersweet and feels like that twinge of sadness that you get looking around the room on Christmas Day, only to smile a second or two later at the beauty and that warm, fuzzy feeling that hopefully is filling you up inside. It’s a type of melancholy that hurts so good. If you know, you know. If you don’t, well, I have just the episode of television for you.

It’s the holidays and time is in short supply, that I understand, but I truly believe that this is one way you can fill 20 minutes that will not be regretted.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! (At least, that’s what Andy Williams promised.) The holidays are a time to celebrate with family, friends, food, and, let’s not forget, fun things to watch. Whether you’re huddled up with the whole family in your living room or cozying up under the covers with your tablet, let Decider be your guide to all things festive this holiday season.
